    I didn't think you were supposed to eat them from May-August raw.

          Old wives tale. They aren't unsafe, just they tend to be smaller or aren't as tasty.

          Now with more commercial farming, they've made a more consistent product through hybridization. Perfectly fine, just have to keep them alive before you start to eat/cook

            I eat them all year too, doesn't bother me.

            I always heard the reason to avoid them in months with "R's" is because water is warmest those months, and bacteria thrives in the warmer temps.
