Atlantic Salmon, no matter if they are fresh or salt water fish, are one species and only one species, from the US to Europe.

Pacific Salmon include five major species in the US.

The majors are Chinook, Sockeye, Coho, Pink, and Chum.

Copper River Salmon can include Chinook (Alaskan King), Sockeye, and Coho, acording to the Copper River Salmon folks
I know all about salmon, nucka! Pssst...

You forgot steelhead. Steelhead and Sockeye are the next best thing, at certain times of the year (aka now, and for another month or two). Second to the first run of CR of course.

again i wasn't posting for you, but for the others.

Steelhead is just a rainbow trout, and yes all trout are members of the salmonid species. They just come back to fresh water to spawn, I still wouldn't call them a direct salmon type, as they are a trout, but definately a family member.

f'ing salmon snobs up in this motha. I am fine with some frozen packaged salmon.

Seriously, I don't eat it very often. I think I just need to eat some good salmon to really appreciate it.

I only eat extremely fresh and quality salmon, but that goes for all fish.

I grew up on the coast, fished almost every weekend, and even then I was picky about seafood. Once I learned that any "fishy" smell in any seafood was a sign of it's decaying, I was out on almost all seafood if i wasn't on the coast, or it wasn't caught that day for freshwater.

I have made an exception to that rule for high quality salmon, and canned tuna

Yes, but steelhead flesh has a dark red or orange color to it like salmon and is much more flavorful than the usual freshwater rainbow trout due to what they feed on living in the sea. We used to fish for them in the Russian River when I lived in Cali.

^^ This, and it's also sold/marketed as steelhead salmon, not steelhead trout or rainbow trout.
