I knew that comment would backfire. I was just trying to say I'm the same height and weight, yet I don't have a FUPA like fedor, not that I could kick his ass or anything...
It doesn't take much effort to not have a gut or some man boobs, which makes me question his conditioning program as a elite, world class athlete.

If you'd like to see what I mean, come on out to the school sometime for a workout and you will understand what I mean. We get big, ripped bodybuilder types in all the time and they never last the workouts. Those big muscles require more oxygen and energy to move for long periods of time. They are strong no doubt (as I assume you are) but it doesn't last very long and only tends to be in mechanical ways of lifting weights, rather than natural body movement.
You might be able to bench 400lbs, or run 10 miles, but probably can't fight/spar longer than 2 minutes without getting so winded you want to puke.
No dig on you sir, just making a statement. Training to fight is completely different than working out in other ways.

I agree, and get the more muscle / more oxygen thing. I just look at Fedor and see 25 pounds of jelly roll that shouldn't be that hard to get rid of. He doesn't need to try to turn into Brock or Alistar, but his current body type can't be an advantage when he has to fight those type of guys (unless he survives the storm and they gas). I just think he should get on the dread-mill a little bit and go to 205 where he ought to be.
On a side note, I actually would like to come check out your school sometime soon (as well as the new Machado location by me), but I need to get in decent cardio shape first. Working 8a to midnight the last year and not getting any road work in completely took my lungs. I know I'm going to get smoked when I start, I just don't want to be wheazing after the first 2 minutes.

As far as Fedor goes, he created his legacy by fighting freaks twice his size. His management depends on that legacy of him KO'n monsters in the HW division.
Fedor fighting guys his size at LHW, just makes him another fighter like anyone else. He kind of got himself stuck in that superhero part.
I agree, he needs to drop down and just fight, rather than letting M-1 ruin his career just to sell tickets.

Grappling / sparring is a combination of muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance. Bodybuilding on growing muscles larger, not necessarily making them more productive over time. Running or jogging (not sprinting) is primarily a cardiovascular workout, and has little to do with muscular endurance. Any form of high intensity anaerobic conditioning would do far better in a cage versus an endurance athlete, in most cases.
Football players (not linemen), hockey players, sprinters, cross fitters, etc would generally be capable of the physical side of MMA conditioning, albeit with different strong suits. The mental side is a bit different compared to most sports though.
