I played 3rd and 2nd all of the way through high school and through two years of club ball here at school. I feel like I've got a pretty good grasp of how the two positions I played work.

His issues aren't with getting to balls, especially down the left field line, but with fielding them. Aside from that, no one has a range issue with getting to balls down the 3rd base line; they may have issues with reactions or making backhanded grabs, but your ability to get to a ball on the third base line is not going to change in the slightest no matter what kind of range you have. The ball travels too quickly to that part of the field for that to be a factor. It's not called the hot corner because you've got a day and a half to run balls down.

Second, on the other hand, is a range position. First covers everything right down the first base line and if he can get to balls to his right, great, but it's the second baseman's job to cover everything to his left so that the first baseman doesn't have to. It's the reciprocal to the SS/3B situation on the left side of the infield.

    Stick to women's soccer.

First, kiss my ass. What's the point of getting to a ball if you can't field it? GTFO with your high school experience. I, too, played third base throughout high school, but I'm smart enough to NOT bring that up initially because it really amounts to nothing when conversing about pro ball.

You know better than the Rangers' staff. I'm sure they have a spot for a talent scout. You missed your calling!

And you change your tune yet again. I'm not saying that he should be playing third, because I don't think he should given his glove last year and Beltre's generally good defense, but I am saying that his range has nothing to do with why he's not playing third. You made the claim that he's playing second base because he doesn't have the range or speed for third and when you got caught talking out of your ass you started shifting your argument again.

You don't fucking know what you're talking about and I don't give a shit what kind of bullshit small town bush league baseball you played in high school in 1938. You consistently talk out of your ass in the Rangers threads and plenty of people have called you on it, but because you're older than dirt you've decided that your beliefs hold more water than anyone else's. Kiss my ass you dumb motherfucker.

Quoted for posterity and said with some serious conviction for someone that just backpedaled as hard as you did.

I'm not shifting/back-pedaling on anything. He does not have the range to get to a ball and field it cleanly to make that throw as well as he used too. If you REALLY knew shit about 3rd base, I wouldn't have to totally explain every damn detail about getting to the ball quickly enough to field it cleanly, and make a strong, long throw.

I have to laugh at yet another smack-talking dick-head. Like this board doesn't have enough already. Another "high school hero" who thinks his ball-playing experince means two shits to anybody here.

If you'd like to correct any other Ranger posts' I've made, feel free.

Once again, I feel like a mental giant every time I post in this thread. I appreciate you validating this once again! LOL!

Jesus Christ, not only are you a moron but you then go on to proclaim your status as a mental giant. I'm not claiming to be any kind of high school superstar but your grasp on the game is clearly tenuous at very best.

Did you not use your high school "prowess" as a 2nd/3rd baseman as a basis for making your argument? Don't get me wrong...I'm a dumbass. That's what's scary. It just shows how ignorant most everyone else is.

Go ahead and correct me on my other Ranger posts'. About all I can think of is my opinion of Chris Davis.

I did get a kick out that "grasp of the game"...LOL!

I merely cited my experience at both positions and didn't say anything about my prowess. I've played a lot of ball and almost all of it was at the specific two positions that you were talking (unintelligently) about and that's the extent of what I said.

You haven't had a legitimate point to make in some time now and you've resorted to personal attacks that are entirely irrelevant to the initial discussion. While we're at those, though, go live out your UT college years vicariously through your daughter some more.

It's simple math. A second baseman is 30-40 feet further from the plate than the third baseman. Any given ball gets there in about 2/3 of the time (and we're only talking about 2-3 seconds). The faster the ball goes, the less it becomes a matter of "speed" and the more it becomes a matter of mere reaction. A second baseman needs speed to run down a ball in the hole and a good glove to field it; a third baseman needs to be alert and react.

Personal attack? Please don't act like you know me. At 100 posts' a day, we already know you're full of shit.

You're going to bring up my kid? Let's meet up for lunch in Waco...my treat. Hell, I'm only about an hour away. Pick a day, time, and restaurant. At least then you can claim to know me.

Yessir. Simple math tells us that the difference is 90ft from home and 127ft (about) to second. I happen to think that's a substantial amount of time, as far as well-hit balls.

Holland looks great tonight and it was great to see Elvis go yard. I'd like to see how deep into the game Holland will go tonight.

I'll be more than happy to take you up on that when I'm not busy with interviewing and school.
