  • MLB changes intentional walk rule

No more 4 pitches. Now an intentional walk will "awarded by a signal from the dugout."

They claim it's to help speed up games, but WSJ did the math and came up with an average savings per game of a whopping 14 seconds. Two thumbs down.

And now we won't have a chance for any more greatness like this:

I'll be honest, watching them throw all 4 just seems silly to me. I'm ok with this.

It adds about a minute when it's actually used in games.

If they really want to speed up games they should start with the umpires. The longest delay they have in games is when calls are challenged. You have guys like Ben May who loses 90% of his disputed calls. If the guy is wrong 90% of the time why is he a professional umpire? The teams and MLB all review umpires, they know which ones suck.

Of course they are and their current contract is good through 2019.

Wrong on 90% of disputed calls is not the same as being wrong 90% of the time. Maybe when he messes up, it's just really obvious!

This is a thing now. Millenials don't have patience to sit through a game so they are trying to speed them up.

NBA will consider shortening games due to millennial attention spans
