This. Laroche's dad played, and he grew up in the clubhouse. I can totally see why he wants his kid there. Remember, Ken Griffey, Jr. grew up there too. I can also see management's side and how it can be a distraction to other players. In the end, both got what they wanted in a professional way. The story here is how a father chose his son and did so in the right way. Good for him.

Read the article, I just have a difference of opinion than you guys do.
I'm aware he's also home schooled, but by a private tutor. The only thing I haven't found yet is what the mother does. Any info on that? Also, wasn't this a trend of his for the last 6 years or so? Bring the kid to work/training i mean. I don't see where a 1 year break is such a terrible, horrible, child relationship destroying thing.

You can't put a price on time with your kids. Every minute missed is a minute you can't get back.

I spent my son's younger years working 2 and 3 jobs, trying to provide and make a comfortable life for us. I'm very proud of what I've accomplished, but I'd give it all back for time with my son. This may be one of those things that someone without kids just doesn't comprehend.

He's 36 and has made almost $72 million over his career, he'll get $2 million more for opting out of 2016. That and he hit .207 last year and played for the White Sox. He was ready to retire. He did leave $10 million on the table though.

IMO, he didn't opt for "quality time", he's had several very involved years of that. He was ready, the job just happen to give him something he could use as an out, and he took it.
