  • Adam LaRouche retires , gives up 13 million

White Sox slugger Adam LaRoche, who was set to make $13 million this season, retired because team president Ken Williams asked him to "dial back" the time his 14-year-old son spent with the club.

The guy has a net worth of $35 million, he couldn't find a babysitter/nanny?
What the shit was/is the mom doing that makes her job more important than his?

You're telling me that if he would have taken that 1 year, his quality time with his child would have forever been destroyed with no hope of redemption, and that his child would have never known his father, or any love from him?

1 fucking year, 13 million, retire, enjoy child's life. Nothing missed in that 1 year, a shit load gained.

The kid is 11 years old. What's going to happen between 11 and 12 that would just be relationship crushing for them?

        Shit.

Good for him. He didn't make a big deal about his difference with management, he just went his own way.

I fully understand the management's take and the father's take on this. They both handled it well.
This. Laroche's dad played, and he grew up in the clubhouse. I can totally see why he wants his kid there. Remember, Ken Griffey, Jr. grew up there too. I can also see management's side and how it can be a distraction to other players. In the end, both got what they wanted in a professional way. The story here is how a father chose his son and did so in the right way. Good for him.

you clearly didn't read the article... opinion void...

I mean... devoid of any logic.

The kid is at a pivotal age. The dad is worth $35 million. He wants to spend time with his kid.

This was probably the straw that broke the camel's back, not the only straw

Read the article, I just have a difference of opinion than you guys do.
I'm aware he's also home schooled, but by a private tutor. The only thing I haven't found yet is what the mother does. Any info on that? Also, wasn't this a trend of his for the last 6 years or so? Bring the kid to work/training i mean. I don't see where a 1 year break is such a terrible, horrible, child relationship destroying thing.

Article says the kid is 14. Your opinion is that he's 11. Ok.

You can't put a price on time with your kids. Every minute missed is a minute you can't get back.

I spent my son's younger years working 2 and 3 jobs, trying to provide and make a comfortable life for us. I'm very proud of what I've accomplished, but I'd give it all back for time with my son. This may be one of those things that someone without kids just doesn't comprehend.

I got that mixed up with some of the articles I read. Some were older. Fucking sue me.

There was definitely a problem created that wasn't there, and it wasn't by me.

You guys act like he just did some kind of saintly service. He was probably just ready to retire and thought this would be a good way to go out and look good doing it.

it's 1 fucking year, for 13 million. Nothing was going to negatively affect the little guy by taking such a super short break. It's not like he would be disappearing and have no contact.

He's had a very thoroughly involved father/son relationship, this would not have hurt anything.

                    Shit.

He's 36 and has made almost $72 million over his career, he'll get $2 million more for opting out of 2016. That and he hit .207 last year and played for the White Sox. He was ready to retire. He did leave $10 million on the table though.

This is kind of what I was getting at in my last post.

IMO, he didn't opt for "quality time", he's had several very involved years of that. He was ready, the job just happen to give him something he could use as an out, and he took it.

This guy didn't stop an asteroid from crashing to the earth, he just had some good cards fall in his lap and used them.

He walked away from $10 million just to throw a gentlemanly "fuck you" to one guy... I'd say he's definitely not money hungry.

Tip of the hat to him
