    Vegas and sports odds

    How does it work? Really, how do they decide the odds they are going to throw out there? I saw somewhere the Cowboys are 8:1 to win the super bowl or make it, I forgot. How did they come up with that? Do they just pull shit out of their ass?

    Someone splain to me.

    It's a numbers game. They don't exactly pull it out of their ass. The oddsmakers study stats, rankings, player impact, etc. I was a bit shocked as well, I posted that up in the ginger thread.

      But it doesn't make sense. I mean seriously, they didn't even make the playoffs.

      Do they make it that high so people will just stay away? This is all about making it intangible enough for people to want to bet, but can't they do the exact opposite to push people to another bet(another team)?

        They don't go just off of last season. Call in and talk to Norm. He's a handicapper, he can tell you how it all works and I'm certain he'd love to talk about how much he knows. lol.

            handicapper, oddsmaker. You listen to him some, you know what he's got packed up in that head of his. The people that make the odds are just like him, but they don't have radio shows.
