Damn, it's about time. I don't expect any miracles with him, but he should be a nice wrinkle to give the Spurs fits!
Roddy Beaubois has first full practice; return at least a week away
Admittedly it was a short team session, but Roddy Beaubois went through the full practice today for the first time this season. He won't accompany the team on the first two legs of the upcoming three-game trip - Wednesday and Thursday nights in Sacramento and Denver - but will join the team in Houston, where the Mavs will play Saturday night, though he doesn't see being able to play that soon.
"At least I need a good week of practice," Beaubois said after following the team practice with additional shooting practice. "I cannot just jump from one-on-one situation to a game. I have to play five-on-five, get used to playing with my teammates, then I'll come back.
"Definitely soon. I can't tell you when exactly because it was my first practice. I have to play a couple practices and see how it is."
He broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot last August while working out with the French national team. It was initially anticipated he would rejoin the team after a month or two but his rehab took more than five months.
Much of today's short practice was focused on rebounding and transition defense after the Mavs allowed 34 fast-break points in their 99-96 victory over Cleveland on Monday night.
Beaubois said of his practice: "It was a big step. It's been a long time, five or six months. So, yeah, it's good to, even if it was a short practice, to be with the guys.'
He got the go-ahead after going through strenuous workouts in Dallas along with Peja Stojakovic while the team was away on a three-game trip through the Eastern Conference. Beaubois said they worked between an hour and two hours, sometimes twice a day, while Stojakovic was also prepping to join the active roster, which he did Monday night.
"I have to work on my cardio, but I feel good," Beaubois said. "Just being with the guys, to be part of the practice even if it was a short one, it's always good."
