He does come with some baggage though. His wife is currently in jail for credit card fraud. She spent $200k at Nordstrom and Saks using Felix Hernandez's account.

They are also in pretty serious talks for Cole Hamels but I think that's just the Philly's yanking our chain again. They'll want Chi Chi and Alfaro and probably for us to pay most of his contract. If they'll take Profar, Odor or Sardinas I can see a trade. He's considerably better than Shields and on par with Sherzer but won't cost $150 million.
I just don't see any scenario in which we give up either Chi Chi or Alfaro at this point. Both have way too much upside, and Chi Chi was really starting to show some polish last season. Not for Hamels, please.

I really like Hamels but I guess he's not in the cards this season. Yovani Gallardo is a decent pick up. We gave up Marcos Diplan, Sardinas and Cory Knebel. Sardinas was the key player for them but they are eating some of Gallardo's contract.

He's also a local and not from Arlington. He pitched at Trimble Tech and was drafted out of high school.

We have a clear picture of the rotation this season now. Darvish, Holland, Gallardo, Detwiler and Lewis. The Nick's can fill in if something happens to one of those guys.

Harrison is throwing again and says is back is fine and Perez is on track to come back before the allstar break. Fielder seems to have his strength back based on the 405 pound bench press photo he posted last week.

If this season is anything less than the playoffs, Daniels best update his resume. He now has his team, his manager, his office personnel etc. I personally think he is overrated and Nolan Ryan was worth way more than he will ever admit. Houston finished ahead of the Rangers last year with Feldman as their ace.... and why the Rangers let Feldman go is beyond me. That guy can eat up innings and the Rangers need starters that can go inning to make it through the hot summer. When Darvish is whining we need a pitcher that can go!

And I did reup and buy my 20 games already. See you on opening day. I will always be a Rangers fan, but I think Daniel's is overrated as a GM. He is one heck of a nice guy (met him twice) and he was really nice to my son, but his moves last year were awful. Fielder isn't worth $24 mil just like ARod wasn't worth $25 mil. For $24 mil a year we could've had Max Scherzer and some change....

You can't follow "why did the Rangers let go of Feldman" with a criticism of any GM ever.

Didn't Detroit cover a large portion of Fielders contract? And you can't bring up Arod, that contract was pre Daniels.

              $30 million of it.

Feldman was 8-12 with a 3.74 ERA, hardly an ace by anyone's standards. He did pitch 180 innings though which was more than any of our starters last season.

Daniels has made some bad moves but he's also dodged some pretty serious bullets.

              Josh Hamilton - $25.4 million
              Mike Napoli - $16 million
              Matt Garza - $12.5 million
              Joe Nathan - $10 million

Hamilton just plain sucks. Napoli has been a good player but $16 million is a ton of money for a backup 1B/DH. Garza was ineffective and Nathan wasn't even a good setup man.

If Elvis is ineffective, Choo doesn't bounce back and Fielder doesn't hit 40 homeruns I'll start to criticize him. Otherwise I think JD has done a good job.

Robbie Ross to the Red Sox for rookie RHP Anthony Ranuado

Ranuado's debut was a win against the Yankees at Fenway so at least he has some big game experience. 6'7 with a decent repertoire. Ross will probably be the next Billy Wagner for the Red Sox though.

I agree Feldman sucks but at least healed his starts which is more than I can say fir the entire pitching staff Daniels has selected.

Feldman doesn't suck but he'd maybe be a #4 guy for Texas if he even made the rotation. $10 million is a lot to pay a middle relief/spot starter. Especially when we have the Nicks making the league minimum along with Ranaudo, Patton and Luke Jackson on the 40 man.

On the news front Texas just guaranteed Beltre's 2016 option. Basically just to keep it from being a distraction. With how Darvish was handled last year it could have been real ugly if the Rangers stunk this season and decided to bench Beltre to keep him under the 600 AB threshold so his 2016 would be an option. It shows they aren't planning on dumping payroll next year at least.

The problem with the Rangers is that they never have a #3, #4 or #5 starter. Really you need some hos pitchers that can make it 200+ innings in this heat. Until the Rangers have that they will never be a real contender outside of lots of luck. Nolan R was trying to build that type of pitching staff and mentality here, and John D chased him out of town. John D has now run everyone off and it is 100% his show. I sadly as much as I wish otherwise predict decent offense this year and suck ass pitching ala the Rangers of the 90s. A lot of fun to watch, but not a serious contender.

Darvish will start whining after 150 innings about being over worked. Lewis is going to pitch 200 innings or 10 innings with an ERA over 5. Holland will go 200 innings with an ERA around 3.8. Gallardo will go 200 innings with an ERA of around 3.8 too.

On Cecil I will go with the same bet I did last year. Over or under 84 RBI thanks to his new number. Last year I predicted under and was right. I'll take under again, and call this the worst signing John D ever made.

So when Lewis dies on the mound trying to win, and Gallardo has heat stroke in July and Holland messes up his knee again chasing his dog, who is going to pitch for this team when games matter and you are trying to close out the division to win? Darvish? Nope he'll be bargaining for another day of rest again.

Until the Rangers sign stud pitchers that can start 30 games a season in this weather they are hosed. John D didn't go after any stud pitchers this offseason or all of last season.

Bannister is going to have his hands full. His "why not us" speech is an interesting one. Why not? Easy, no starters that can make it on the mound in this weather year in and year out.

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail with most of what you said, but Texas doesn't have great pitching but it's far from as bad as you paint it. I will, however, say that Daniels has made bigger mistakes than Kinsler for Fielder: how about the Soriano, Adrian Gonzalez/Chris Young, and Danks trades?
