I thought Red Bull made a mistake for releasing him over Scott Speed a few years ago. His rookie season was bad but he was new to stock car racing. But since his 2nd year he has gotten better and better every year.
The report did mention how AJ really stepped it up the last half of the season.

if memory serves me right I think it was because of a crew chief change

      • there could be a possible hangup on this Busch to RPM deal. RPM gets their engines and chassis from Roush Racing who might not like them having Busch.

Yeah I saw that as well. Maybe he needs a year off to let him realize that his king of the world attitude isn't going to fly anymore.

then again you'd think Kurt being shown the door at Roush would do that too

            • Jeremy Mayfield's financial troubles got worse this week as his mortgage lender has begun foreclosure proceedings on his approximately 400-acre property in North Carolina. Mayfield took out a $3.1 million mortgage in July 2006, and his lender alleges that he has failed to make his payments, according to the foreclosure filed Tuesday in North Carolina Superior Court in Newton, N.C. That has resulted in the lender, Carolina Farm Credit, to call on Mayfield to pay the balance of $2.387 million plus more than $340,000 in interest and fees, according to the filing. A hearing on the foreclosure is set for Feb. 7

              • Kurt will have a ride somewhere. If he doesn't get the 43 car, he will be in James Finch's #51. I assume David Ragan will be in the #22, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Ricky Stenhouse in the #71 Ford for Kevin Buckler.

Man.... he was never a real contender or anything, but he ran decent enough. What a fall from grace. Guess that's what happens when you can't put the pipe down. I just want to know where Shana is nowadays.....

I am ecstatic to hear this announced. I thought Mike Ford cost Denny the championship two seasons ago. His pit crew won the Pit Crew championship this year again but they did not perform well at all on race day. I hope Grubb get's them back into shape. I hope this leads to a quick turnaround for the team.

                    • Joey Logano is getting a new crew chief. Greg Zipadelli is leaving JGR to be the Director of Competition at Stewart Hass Racing. Probably got tired of Logano whiny shit

Yes. I believe even Jack thinks he's ready. He made one start in 2011 in the Wood Brother's #21, I believe the Coca-Cola 600. Qualified 9th-10th and finished 11th. Not bad for a basically second teir team(albeit with Roush equipment). He'd be helping-out TRG by driving the #71 since they don't have a driver and he'd keep it in the top 35, and that would also allow Bayne to run another half-season in the #21, and a full season in Nationwide. Ragan has been released so I'd bet the #6 is done for 2012, and will probably come back in 2013 with Stenhouse driving. With the #6 out in 2012, it locks the #71 in for the first five races next year, and they run Roush equipment so it helps all parties involved. Stenhouse will also probably split a ride with Carl in the Nationwide series for most of the companion races, and Bayne will run full-time in another car. But, what do I know!

It's all about sponsor $$ unless you're bringing $$ to the table like Paul Menard for example. RPM is having a hard time finding sponsorship, so it's nothing against AJ Almendinger, but who do you think brings in more sponsors, a previous champion with 20 or so wins that makes the chase almost every year(Kurt Busch), or a guy with no wins? That's why Busch will probably replace Almendinger in the #43. RPM is HURTING for $$, they need all they can get, and Busch will probably get that ride because he gets sponsors and puts fans in the stands, whether you like it or not. There's way more talented drivers out there than there are rides, so the car owners can pick and choose who they want. It will be interesting to see where Reutiman ends-up. I think he's VERY talented, but what car owner/sponsor wants a 40+ year-old guy that isn't named Labonte/Martin/etc?

yeah I know its a sponsor driven sport. But the thing about Kurt vs AJ in my opinion, I would go with AJ due to the fact he was running good with what he had. Yes Kurt is a former 1 time champ. But he hasnt exactly left the other organizations on good terms or voluntarily. He hasnt been winning very many races in those 6 years since his championship year. So if he isnt doing so well with good equipment (other than in spurts), whats he going to do with sub-par ( for lack of a better word) equipment? Yes I know Rousch provides the engines, but I dont think all the equipment is as good as a true Rousch car.
