  • I have to admit he is on fire. But nascar screwed up on this one. They should have penalized brad and Matt for speeding. Nascar took this race from Gordon. But I will not say brad is anything special until he runs like this more consistently. He has had 1 good month and he is taking advantage of it.

I don't see him contending for the title this year. Like it has been the last 2 seasons, it will be Kyle's to lose. They kept shooting themselves in the foot during the title chase.

Jeff led the most laps and came in the pits first. When they were exiting, Brad and Matt passed about 4 cars (literally past them) each in pit row to get ahead of Jeff exiting the pits. Nascar didnt penalize either of them and hence, Brad took the lead with very few laps to go. Very bad officiating. There were plenty of other drivers that mentioned it after the race.

I was watching Nascar live and they said that is not an illegal move, they were speeding before the first timing light or some shit. I'm not entirely sure how it works. I was hoping someone in here could explain it.
All those races were boring as shit, same for the F1 race and Indy.

            • Its nothing new on shorter race tracks. There are three timing lines on pit road at bristol. Your speed is averaged between these lines. The lines are at start finish, pit in, and pit out. Brads spot was the first spot PAST start finish. So, when you factor in a 14 second stop AFTER he tripped the timer, he can haul ass to the pit out line. You have to play the game correctly, gordon wasnt innocent, they qaulified p4 yet chose a pit spot on the back stretch. Everybody in the game knows this stuff....

Actually, they said it wasnt "technically" illegal during the TV broadcast, but that nascar would be looking into changing the rule because whether in between the timing marks or not.... speeding is speeding. I give all the credit in the world to brad and matt for taking advantage of a rule/non rule. But I still think it was a blown call on nascars side.

Its more that certain crew chiefs know how to massage the rules. As mentioned during the telecast, they are going to look into changing it. Gordon's innocence or not has nothing to do with how all other drivers but those two complied to "pit row speed". Thats why it is in question. Doesnt matter if they timed the markers just right, if they went 60mph and the pit row speed is 45 (just using those as examples as I am not sure what the exact limit was) then they were speeding in between those markers. Word is that nascar is going to make that move illegal by the next bristol race.

The whole point of pit row speed is so another person doesnt get killed like Bill Elliot's tire changer.

Yeah I do remember hearing it during the live broadcast, but you know how they have Nascar Live or something (it may be named something else) that sums up all the races. They said during that broadcast that it was'nt illegal and like it has already been said. You just gotta know the game to play.

i spoke to brad, he said he was in the top of 3rd gear leavin on that last stop LOL, waaaay over 100mph. It's a loophole, if you qualify well you have the opportunity to take advantage of this through pit selection. franky stoddard was the first to use this back with jeff burton in like '99 qualifiying for the winston at charlotte. Our qualifying had to include a pit stop with 2 flying laps.........He chose the pit spot right behind the start finish line, took his two flying laps, pitted after getting the white flag, and only had to roll 10 feet to trip the finish line. Saved all the time getting off pit road, as we had no pit road speed for this particular event, it was genius. It was really cool rollin a car onto pit road at 185......fans loved it

                      • I dont have a problem with it, they weren't breaking the rules they are just bending them. Is this the race that your talking about Grape?

I dont have a problem with the drivers exploiting the "loop hole" in the rule. Hell, I wish Jeff's crew chief would have used that same strategy and saved the win. I have a problem with nascar's grey/white policing of the rule. I stand firm on my opinion of it not mattering if you speed in between the markers but not at the marker.... speeding is speeding. Its called pit row speed. And last I checked, the area in between the timing markers are part of pit row. LOL Seriously though, if nascar didn't think they blew another call, I dont think they would be mentioning that they will be looking to change that rule/loophole to where you cant do that anymore.

thank you, the rule states that you have to be at this speed at the line. it dosent say what speed you have to be between the lines. so technically he didnt break any rules.

No, pit strategy is part of the game. Bending the rules is another term for cheating legally via loopholes. Yes I have been to dirt tracks. Whats that got to do with the price of tea in china? regardless of where it takes place, your not going to convince me that no rules were broken. Just as I wont convince you that one was broken. "bending the rules" translates to breaking them without getting caught red handed. Otherwise, they wouldnt be called rules.

Actually, it does. Again... hence the term pit row speed. They determine the speed by how fast you got there from marker to marker.... so he had to get on the breaks just at the right time. So if pit row speed is 45 and one does 60 between the markers.... was he not speeding?
Kurt Busch tried it and got dinged twice for speeding. So if it's totally legal, why did Mike Helton himself say they will look into making it very clear, no "bending" the pit road speed rule?

Guess it really doesnt matter though. Its done and now the next race approaches. Neither of the two will win the title. I am 100% sure of that.
