Yeah it was funny seeing Dodds on the LHN at halftime saying he wasn't going anywhere and two weeks later he announces it. Almost like Belmont waited just so Chip Brown wouldn't be "right". Fucking losers

Rumors are Mack isn't going quietly and Joe Jamail is negotiating a bigger buy out. Mack never redid his buy out after all these extensions so it's still at a measly 2.75mm

Sounds like 'Bama isn't going quietly, either. $7 mil a year for Saban to stay.

I haven't been paying attention, but what good reason does Saban have to leave Alabama? ESPECIALLY to go to Texas? What coach worth their weight would even consider something like this? He wants wins and titles. Titles aren't going to happen with the current state of the Big XII. Surely only delirious teasips are the only ones delusional enough to think Saban would leave. Or am I completely wrong on this?

Some would say as big factor is what Texas is willing to pay for Saban. They can easily match his salary as he only makes $200K more per year than Brown does and rumor has it Texas has said they could pay up to $11 mil per year. Let's face it, money talks.

Supposedly Saban hasn't signed his contract extension which he's had since Friday that guarantees him somewhere in the mark of $7mil a year till 2020. If he's staying, why wait to sign said extension?

Who knows what will happen though. There's speculation all over the place.

Completely wrong? maybe not. Wrong? Maybe. Media seems to believe that since Saban hasn't signed his extension yet (been sitting on his desk since Friday) that he's actually thinking about it. Why would he? Money. Nobody thought he would leave LSU for Miami. Nobody thought he would leave Miami unforced for Alabama. Money drives the man and so does a challenge. And boy would he have a challenge by going to Texas.

And let's face it, Austin is a lot better place to live than any city in Alabama

I would argue it would be easier to reach the playoffs in the Big XII.

If you were a head coach and knew you had to go either undefeated or 1 loss max each year to reach the playoffs, which conference would you want to do it in? SEC or the Big XII?

While I agree, just wait 5 years. That place is becoming a bigger shithole every time I'm there.

If I were a coach, money would mean less than titles. Sure, money motivates. But the salary differences can't be that much between the two. If we're talking $750,000/yr or less, I'd rather stay where I'm at and win titles. And I would think Bama could afford a bigger salary to begin with, with the SEC money flying around.

I think people may be reading too much in to him not signing his extension yet. When it comes to salary negotiations in my own life, I never accept the first offer, and just because I don't accept immediately doesn't mean I'm entertaining other offers. But again, I could be completely wrong.

So I was telling my brother last night about some of the reasons programs that are high successful slip back. I listed several things, and then they're all on the radio today and in print.

                      1) Miss on a recruit -- Mack hasn't had a QB since Colt despite having highly ranked recruits like Gilbert (whom every other school recruiting him would have missed on too).

                      2) Losing assistants to other up and coming schools, sometimes even in the conference (Brent I know you've seen guys leave OU because of their success and some have even returned -- it's hurts the team).

                      3) Other teams in the conference getting new, better coaches than what they have sometimes because of #2 above.

You could go on and on with other reasons. Cowherd today pointed all this out, and then used it as the perfect reason for Saban to leave. He said look at when Pete Carroll got out of USC (Sanchez left and no QB in place, lots of assistants gone -- then the program slips back a lot). He said to look at FL -- Meyer left, haven't replaced Tebow, etc. Then he said look at Saban -- he's had a 4 year starter at QB so he's starting over there, losing assistants, etc. Texas is not in 'bad shape' at 8-4 and bowl bound. If you wanted to move into a lucrative situation setup nicely (meaning you aren't inheriting a 2-9 team like many coaches do in their first year), why not go to Texas? He went on to talk about the idiocy of Alabama fans too.

I personally hope Mack stays. I'm loyal though to people who build a program like he has done. He took it from ashes and made it the most profitable program in the country and won a ton of games. The man can still coach. I think it's a disservice to be treated as he's being treated now. I'd think the same thing if Stoops had 3 or 4 eight win seasons in a row or any other longstanding coach for that matter. I believe when you are that good for that long, you have a window that you can coach through before it's time to go. Now, that doesn't mean a coach can't overstay -- see Bobby Bowden and Jo Paterno. Mack isn't even close to that though.

Not when SOS is factored in. You don't need to look any further than 2000-current season to see how that usually shakes out. Things could/should change with the playoff system. But that remains to be seen.

I can't give an unbiased answer to this question. SEC is always going to be in the National spotlight. Big XII is always going to be the shitheel of the NCAA. Maybe not shit heel, but they will never be more than second fiddle. I don't like that, but history proves that to be the truth.

I'd say the Big XII will always be in the national spotlight, even if they play second fiddle (along with everyone else) to the SEC.

Out of the 15 BCS champ games played, 10 have included SEC teams and 7 from the Big XII.... and I would argue it should have been 8 if Okie Lite didn't get fucked by the BCS in the 2011 standings.

I think if Baylor stays good along with OU and OSU, SOS won't be an issue with the Big XII. It's not like any other conference outside of the SEC is stacked with good teams to influence a SOS argument over a Big XII team.
