Vick-Mornhinweg reunion unlikely
Adam Schefter
ESPN | January 20, 2013
Michael Vick likely will not be following Marty Mornhinweg to the New York Jets.
Vick and Mornhinweg were not on the best of terms this past season with the Philadelphia Eagles, and neither the veteran quarterback nor the newly hired Jets offensive coordinator are interested in reuniting in New York, sources told ESPN.
If Vick is released by the Eagles this offseason, he is expected to command a contract well out of the salary cap-strapped Jets' price range.
Jets coach Rex Ryan has an affinity for Vick, and New York may be looking to replace Mark Sanchez, who threw 18 interceptions this past season and counts for $12.8 million against the team's salary cap.
Jets general manager John Idzik, who also was hired Friday following a front-office stint with the Seattle Seahawks, could pursue former Seattle quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, league sources told ESPN.
While in Seattle, Idzik was a supporter of Jackson, who spent this past season as a backup with the Buffalo Bills and would fit into the Jets' price range.
Mornhinweg, who was hired Friday by the Jets, spent 10 seasons with the Eagles, the last seven as the primary play caller. The Eagles were ranked in the top 10 in total offense in five of those seven seasons, thanks to the quarterback play of Donovan McNabb and Vick and an array of skill-position talent.
The 50-year-old Mornhinweg won't have those luxuries with the Jets, who dropped to 30th in total offense under Tony Sparano, who was fired after one season as the Jets' offensive coordinator. New York's quarterback situation is a mess, with Sanchez coming off a career-worst season and Tim Tebow floating in limbo.
Mornhinweg is known as a quarterback guru, and his expertise should help Sanchez -- if he remains on the roster. The Jets fired their quarterbacks coach, Matt Cavanaugh, the only position coach Sanchez has known.
Information from ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini was used in this report.

So they want another QB that while he might have a bit more talent than Tebow or Sanchez, he's extremely injury prone? Bleacher Report reported that the Jets say they have no interest in Vick. However, I'd take that with a grain of salt. If they do aquire him though, whoever is running that team needs to be fired."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson
