I don't like the thought of giving up, but I think it's the right move. It was just going to be dragged out until the end of the season, either missing the playoffs or somehow making it and getting disposed of in the first round. At least Newey is getting something out of the rest of this season and setting the team up for the future.
Vancouver trade gets the Stars a 2nd round pick and another solid defensive prospect. Defense has a promising looking future with these last two moves.
Rumored name on the Jagr trade is Alexander Khokhlachev, a shifty, young Russian winger. Nothing to substantiate that, though.
It sucks to see Jagr go but he's at the point where his career is coming to an end and he's going to go where the money is the last few seasons he plays. It's been a tiring season for the Stars and it's been filled with young guys that have a lot to learn. I'm looking forward to seeing this team rebuild.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Jagr wanted to go anywhere.

I think that may have been the case. The Stars had been talking to his people about a contract extension; either those talks had stopped progressing or Newey decided that having him for next year just was outweighed by the ability to get something for him this year.
Today's acquisitions included, the Stars now have nine picks in the 2013 NHL Draft:
1st
2nd (BOS)*
2nd (VAN)
2nd
3rd (EDM or MIN)**
4th
5th
5th (PIT)
6th
* Conditional pick, Dallas receives Boston's first-round selection in 2013 if the Bruins advance to the Eastern Conference Finals in this year's playoffs
** Dallas receives the better of the pick (either Edmonton or Minnesota)

I'll be really surprised if they Gulutzan go. Gaglardi is doesn't feel making a major change (like a head coach) will have much of an impact. He's content with where they are in regards to coaching staff.

Gulutzan? I see absolutely no reason to make a change there, but that's just me.
I concur, and it APPEARS they are worrying more about the team than the coach. No on is talking poorly about him either.
Actually, hearing him getting pissed about losing puts him up higher in my book too. Also, it seems like he's helping to make things happen even though the team is going through a major overhaul.
