The guy is a great DC. He only did so bad this year because of penalties. If it wasn't offensive, it was pass interference. That's all on the player. There's only so much a coach can do about that. Phillips, other than this year, had nothing but winning seasons and the losses were due to discipline, which as long as he isn't head coach, is fixable.

I agree. He's not head coach material but a good DC.

I don't know if I would go as far as saying he has had nothing but winning seasons. How many Superbowl much less playoff appearances does he have under his belt as a head coach?

I do agree that he is a good DC though but he's too much of a pushover to be a head coach.

I am stoked to have Wade back in Houston. He is the best DC available and is exactly what the Texans need. The only problem is getting the players he will need switching to the 3-4.

If thats the case, then how has he spent over 35 years in the league?

Doubt much will change since Kubiak is still a problem, IMO.

How so? He's built a DAMN good offense. Defense is their downfall. Scoring points hasn't ever really been a problem.

I could have worded it better. He just isn't a proven winner. Just because he won 3 SB's as an assistant doesn't mean jack to me. Hell the guy was a career(9 years) backup for Elway for god's sake. He hasn't amassed but 1 winning season in a total of 5 years as HC, going 9-7 last year. And as far as their offense, I'm surprised you would give him all the credit when they have Rick Dennison as an offensive coordinator. If you can give Kubiak props for the offense then he can justly take the degradation for the defense, IMO.

I didn't intend to give him all the credit, but being an offensive guy, you know he played a big role in that.

Defense has ALWAYS been their problem. Secondary is flat out weak. I mean, when you're rolling out Cowboys rejects for starting DBs, there is a problem, given how weak the Dallas secondary has been over the last 5 years or so. They've got a top 10 QB, top 3 receiver, and they've always been decent at the RB position. Slaton was sufficient, before his fumbleitis set in.

Kubiak isn't the problem, its his players.

I'm glad Jerry Jones was smart enough to not buy into that philosophy any longer than he did with Wade.
