No, this is to replace kickoffs. Your punting scenario would not apply, it would remain the same as it always as been. So, Team A scores a TD. Team A then lines up on their own 30 yd line, and it's 4th and 15. They can punt from the 30, or go for the first down. Going for the first down would be equivalent to an onside kick. Punting would be the equivalent to the kickoff after the TD.

It's the start of the game. Team A won the toss and elected to "kick off." They can either punt the ball to Team B, from Team A's 30, or they can try one play to advance the ball to the 45 yard line and continue on with a drive of their own.

Ohhhhhhh my bad, ok. I can see that changing a lot of games for sure. Not sure how it's supposed to make it safer though. All your really doing is eliminating the onside kick.

Exactly. Which is why it's retarded. I'd like to see some stats though. I bet players get hurt more on punt returns, than kickoffs, by a 3:1 ratio.

I'd bet that's no where close to right... Kickoffs ARE MORE dangerous than punts! Kickoffs have a LOT of full speed contact hits, while punts have some too, punts have many more sustained blocks from the line of scrimmage...

I'm against this but you would see more exiting ends to games as its probably a much better success rate completing a 4th and 15 than recovering an obvious onside kick.
