I believe that his play in the playoffs spoke volumes as to his dedication to the Rangers. His stock, at least for the Rangers has dramatically fallen since the All-Star break. He could be worth some trading stock, I would let him go IMO.

Josh Hamilton has named his price...7 yrs/$175mil

Josh Hamilton is hoping to find a team to pay him $175 million over seven years, a source told Baseball Prospectus' John Perrotto this week.

Hamilton, who hits free agency after spending the last five seasons with the Rangers, is widely viewed as the top position player available, but he could have trouble finding a team willing to invest that kind of cash in him.

Though such a deal wouldn't match the length of the contract Albert Pujols secured from the Los Angeles Angels last off-season, it would put Hamilton on par in terms of average annual salary at $25 million.

A year ago, a 31-year-old Pujols signed a 10-year, $254 million deal with the Angels after playing at least 147 games and putting up an OPS of .997 or better in eight of his previous nine seasons.

Hamilton, also 31, only had one year with an OPS above 1.000 and struggled to stay healthy during his time in Texas, missing an average of 32 games a season. Beyond that, Hamilton's history with drug and alcohol addiction could give teams another reason to shy away from a long-term commitment.

For all of his obvious talents and flaws, predicting the market for Hamilton's services has been unusually tough. Some analysts seem to think he'll have a hard time securing more than a three- or four-year deal, while others think a team will eventually crack and offer five, six or even seven years.

But one thing seems sure: If Hamilton finds a team willing to meet that reported $175 million asking price, it almost certainly won't be Texas.

I don't necessarily have a problem with $25M a year, but I'd do about 4 years. I don't think anyone wants to put up with, I meant babysit Hamilton for 7 years. The risk on how his body will hold up is also too great.

its a hell of a lot easier to come down than to go back up.

That's not the result of a drunken binge, that's the result of doing a few too many lines in the bathroom with his agent.

In a way, sure. But it's going to take multiple players in the game to get his contract anywhere near that price, and the price that the league thinks he's worth will settle where it settles; this press release doesn't alter that price in the least, other than it sends a pretty heavy-handed message to the Rangers. He might as well have just said he wants $500 million, because the figure is essentially meaningless.

                      holy fuck @ Hamilton!

Norm keeps saying he expects Nap to go, and he also thinks they deal with Tampa on Price instead of Greinke. It will be an interesting offseason for sure.

I've heard of that rumor as well about Price, likely would have to trade Elivs for him

Justin Upton became the hottest trade topic with teams sensing that the Arizona Diamondbacks will trade their right fielder.

The Texas Rangers have expressed strong interest, according to an executive directly involved with the talks, but they have resisted the Diamondbacks' request for shortstops Elvis Andrus or Jurickson Profar. The executive spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because talks are ongoing.

"We've always said that if a team wants to talk about any of our players, including Justin Upton, that we would listen," Diamondbacks team president/CEO Derrick Hall said. "We owe it to our fans to look at all ways to improve our team."

"He will not be an easy guy for us to move," Diamondbacks general manger Kevin Towers said. "I think we've said it's probably unlikely we end up doing something with him, but if somebody is willing to step up and we think it's a deal that's going to make the Diamondbacks better next year and going forward, we'll talk about trading him."

The Boston Red Sox also have shown interest, but according to a person with knowledge of Upton's preferences, the Red Sox are one of four teams on Upton's newly submitted no-trade list.

Upton was on the trading block during at the July 31 trade deadline, but not dealt. When he was approached about the topic in September, he said: "I understand that this is baseball and I'm going to approach my off-season the same way I would. I'm going to go home, play golf, enjoy my family, do whatever I've got to do. If they call me and tell me I got traded, then that's what happens. I'm not going to worry myself about it. Whatever happens, happens."

Upton, 25, and the younger brother of free agent B.J. Upton. He is signed for $9.75 million next season, $14.25 million in 2014 and $14.5 million in 2015.
