Here's a breakdown of Jamey Newberg's most recent spring training report:
- Yankees want to trade Joba Chamberlain for Mike Olt. Rangers lol'd at that.
- McLellan indeed won't be ready for opening day. (sidenote: neither will Greinke).
- Martin and Gentry both have looked good in the competition for the center field starting job, Borbon likely to get traded
- According to Jon Heyman (CBS Sports), the Rangers have “twice tried to lock up All-Star shortstop Elvis Andrus to a long-term contract and are expected to make one more run at it this year,” and “that if the Rangers can’t secure him to a multiyear deal they will likely trade him in ‘10 to 12 months,’” and that all that should be viewed in light of the fact that Andrus is a Scott Boras guy, and so is Heyman.
- 19 yo Joey Gallo hit a monster blast off Carlos Villenueva in Sunday's game, along with drawing two hard fought walks. He's a guy to keep an eye on over the next few years.
- 5th starter competition is being led by Ross, Tepesch, and Kirkman (who has had a very solid spring)
I wasn't watching, but ScoreCenter and my dad said there were back-to-back-to-back-to-back HR in the 4th and they gave up 6. Pujols, Hamilton, Kendrick, and I think Callaspo? I saw the last couple of innings, though. Nice hitting in the ninth.

No energy from the Rangers, to say the least. Houston's scrappy little $18.7 million crew will play hard for a while, but I don't see it lasting more than a couple of weeks at most.
