I'm sure a lot of you guys read the DMN article on Lance Berkman, right? More than anything, they really stressed his World Series numbers and the fact that he's a "native Texan". I felt like it was like some sort of sales job. I mean, I'm a "native Texan", but that doesn't mean I could hit a bull in the ass with a snow shovel. He's definitely banged up (several knee surgeries, etc.). I hope he brings something to the Rangers.

Berkman will provide some power. He won't make up for Hamilton but I'm pretty sure he won't quit on the team, either. I'm glad we didn't get Upton either. Overrated. Still need a power hitting OF but looks like we'll have to wait.
Feel bad for Napoli but the Rangers weren't interested because his hip is screwed up. Cost him plenty of money but "that the way baseball go". He had his "year" in 2011 and probably won't ever touch that level again.

I think what we see with the Rangers is what we are going to get. We lost a ton of power so they will have to manufacture a lot more runs. The problem with that is Berkman and AJ cant run so they will need to approach career years with power numbers which is asking a ton.
We need a step up year from Holland. Its put up or shut up as far as i am concerned with him. The middle relief of the bullpen worries me too. Lots of names with little market value. But the Rangers have been pretty good over the years at piece mealing together effective bullpens. Since they pretty much refused to trade their prospects this year we need to see them play even if it costs them games. That has been a hard sale to Washington in the past. With M Young gone, i think it plays his hand to do so a little more..

This year hinges on the starting staff and middle relief. I think the starting staff has a very good chance to carry this team, but it's going to require Yu to have a consistent outing every 5 days(doesn't have to be an all-star performance every night, but no blowups), Harrison has to live up to his contract, Holland has to finally put it all together (he's the linchpin here, as far as I'm concerned), and Ogando has to stay healthy.
Lewis coming back sometime in the middle of the season will be terrific and may actually work out well as he'll be extra fresh going down the stretch. Ross needs to build on last season, Feliz needs to embrace his role (whatever it may be) in the bullpen if that's where he windsup, and one more arm in the pen needs to step up to make this season a success.
Not a lot of worries here for me, personally. It's just a matter of whether this team can put it together mentally, which seemed to be their biggest struggle last year.
Some locker room distractions have been taken care of (Hamilton), but the loss of Young will be felt in that department more than some are thinking, methinks. This club has had a very strong locker room throughout the past several seasons of success, and I think it's been an important part of that success. We saw last year that when the locker room crumbled, so did the team's performance.
tl;dr: offense should be fine, but not incredible. starting pitching is there, holland needs to put up, need an arm or two in the pen to step up. locker room will be key to success/failure this year.
