He's more than likely realized that he's just not ever going to be a feature back and he probably doesn't want to be remembered for being a career backup so he's calling it quits before things get any worse.

If Forte is healthy and the knee isn't an issue, then I'd trade Felix Jones. Forte is a dual threat RB. I dont really understand why Forte is upset about the signing. In this league you need two good running backs on your roster.
