  • Washington just said Oswalt is moving to the bullpen, Ogando still in bullpen as well. Interview on The Ticket.

Neffy needs Tommy John with a torn UCL.

      • Well I'm going to enjoy watching the Phillies game on MLB.TV tonight with absolutely no expectations on how the game should play out. Looking forward to seeing if Dom Brown has finally started to make improvements.

Nice last minute trade for Dempster!

Easy there. Long way to go between here and there, for him and for the Rangers.

Yeah. He might be "World Series ready", but it's the other bunch I'm worried about. He will definitely help the cause, especially with the chaos the pitching staff is in.

You're not kidding. I bet your season started feeling really weird these past few days.

I think it's a good trade though. Villanueva has a big bat, but there wasn't anywhere for him in this organization given that the Rangers are already logjammed at the left infield positions anyway. Hendricks wasn't a top prospect anyway, so it doesn't seem like the Rangers gave up a ton. Probably gave up a good bit less here than they did for Lee in 2010.

              • I like the Dempster trade, didnt have to give up Olt or Profar. Only thing is can he keep the year he is having up? If so he will be a great addition. I'm not sure about that catcher we picked up, is he supposed to be better defensively than Yorvit or something?

Don't know, but he was injured for quite a while, and he's batting sub-.200. Not that Yorvit was tearing it up...

He's going to be good, and I think he'll get work done, but he has little to no playoff experience. Obviously he's an older veteran, but he's not an entirely known quantity when it comes to crunchtime.

He'll throw out more runners than Yorvit. He's also a weird move because I think picking him up was more about next year than this year. Yorvit's contract was up at the end of the year, so we'll get him for next year as well and he might even be arbitration eligible.

Profar and Olt weren't ever going anywhere, and certainly not for a rental player.

Career average is .252. Slight defensive upgrade over Torry and a little more offensive potential to boot. And most importantly it's one less player the Rangers need to find in the offseason.

I was being a little facetious, hence the triples stat. But the Soto trade makes even more sense now, he will probably be Dempster's exclusive catcher for a while. Not to mention he was the 2008 NL ROTY (the year after Dempster got his second All-star award and was voted 6th in NL Cy Young running).

Thought so, but I couldn't tell, lol.

Dempster and Soto could be a very good combination if the Rangers are fortunate enough to make it to the series. They'll know the NL hitters far better than any other battery we have.

Assuming you are talking about Soto, if The Rangers non-tender Soto, usually based upon performance, he could actually hit free agency as well. But only time will tell.

                            • Glad to see Oswalt out of the rotation. Hopefully he's just a long reliever to eat up runs on a bad night and not anyone to be entrusting a lead to late in the game.

That's at the Rangers' discretion, though. We'll see how he performs and if he's worth keeping. The Napoli situation will affect a lot of that.
