I heard Feliz is out for the year??

I thought I heard he was out until the All-Star Break, but that was what I heard last week.

I don't get the move. Feliz is supposedly expected to be back in a month or so, so Oswalt won't even be up with the Rangers until Feliz is ready to go again, and Feldman seems to be doing a serviceable job.

Either they (the Rangers) have reason to believe that Feliz isn't going to be back for a while, or they're just being dumb and making that seemingly annual unnecessary midseason acquisition they've been making for the last several seasons.

I think they just arent really sure when Feliz will be back and want to have a backup plan in place. Who knows, maybe they want to play it safe and put Feliz in the bullpen for the rest of the year.

I think they haven't been convinced that Feliz is the answer for the rotation, and when you're not a contender, then you can leave your young guys out there to cut their teeth and pick up some experience by making mistakes and struggling. But when you are expected to go deep in the playoffs again, and contend for the WS, you can't have a question mark on your rotation.

I think they feel that Oswalt can be better than an erratic Feliz and Feldman who lacks starter ability. I think Feliz goes back to the pen, and gets another shot at the rotation next year.

That's fine and all, but:

a. They better not cite payroll concerns in the offseason after dropping $5 mil on Oswalt

b. It's going to create an issue when Feliz is healthy again and the team has to decide what to do with 6 starting pitchers and inevitably fucks Feliz back into the bullpen.

Erratic Feliz? I can only think of one poor start that he's had (Houston) and a start in Toronto that left something to be desired. Hell, his only loss came in a 3 ER complete game matched up against Verlander.

yeah, overall Feliz has been very good. Honestly I am really not sure about this decision. I just dont see you paying Oswalt 5 mil for half a season to play in the pen

The problem there is that they won't stick him in the pen, no matter what. They'll ride him into the ground, because Wash refuses to bench or demote players until his hand is absolutely forced.

Holland and Harrison are big question marks, too. Both have ERAs in the 4s (Feliz is 3.25ish).

Holland and Harrison are typically only bad for one inning though before they start clamping down. A ~4 ERA is usually enough for the offense to combat anyway.

His start in Toronto was bad, 4 ER in 5 innings and 6 walks? Then in Houston he fails to make it out of the 5th and walks 5.

Now with the injury coming so early in the season, it's hard to say anything more than he's shown potential. He's not been bad, but he's definitley not great either, there's defiinitley some room for improvement.

I haven't heard that yet, but for them to go ahead and sign Roy, it's a tell-tell sign something is wrong.

I like this move at $5M. At the $7.5M he was asking, not so much.

I hope not. I really like Harrison and he's quite underrated.
