You've got Olt, Moreland, Young, and Napoli all playing 1st base on any given day. As long as there's a good player on 1st, I don't really care, but just curious as to what they're thinking.

Originally posted by Vertnut View PostOne of the issues I've had with Washington, is I think he over-plays the "righty/lefty" to the point where he'll pull a hot hitter for a guy slumping. I think there's too many guys at first, and you wind up with 4 "OK" guys instead of 2 that can really play the spot.
Moreover, it gives the guys a lot of rest going down the stretch here. They can all DH on any given night even if they're not in the field. And at the end of the day, even if Moreland doesn't start, it works out perfectly that he can come in and face a righty late in the game and then you have your best defensive first baseman in for the last inning or three of the game.
There's certainly a risk to not letting people get into grooves and to having confusion and lack of confidence, but it seems to be working right now.

While that doesn't answer the first base question, it is nice to hear that he'll consider leaving a player that's hot the fuck alone.
