Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers has won the 2011 Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award in a landslide.

    UPDATED FEB 4, 2012 9:26 PM ET

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP)
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers has won the 2011 Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award in a landslide.

Rodgers earned 48 votes to two for New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL. The Packers star is the first Green Bay player honored since Brett Favre concluded a run of three straight seasons as MVP in 1997.

''It means a lot to be recognized as a consistent player and contributing on my team,'' Rodgers said. ''I think it's an award that relies on a player having the support of his teammates, obviously, guys blocking, guys running, guys catching, guys making plays. But I'm very honored to receive the award.''

Rodgers received a standing ovation after his name was announced by Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, the league's only four-time MVP. The award was presented on the ''NFL Honors'' primetime special Saturday night on NBC.

''We're all really excited to see you back on the field next year,'' Rodgers told Manning.

Rodgers led the NFL in passing with a 122.5 rating built on 45 touchdown passes, six interceptions and a 68.3 completion percentage as the Packers went 15-1 and won the NFC North. The Packers were beaten by the New York Giants at Lambeau Field in the divisional round.

''People really count on me to be consistent each week, to play well. Knowing that my performance, the fact that I touch the ball every play, I have a direct impact on the game, the way I play,'' Rodgers said. ''And if I'm playing consistent and doing things I know I'm supposed to do, we've been able to have some success because of it.''

He joins former Packers Bart Starr, Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung as MVPs.

Rodgers is the third consecutive quarterback voted MVP, joining New England's Tom Brady (2007, 2010) and Indianapolis' Peyton Manning (2008, 2009).

What, you think that 1 single stat deserves the league MVP award? That's funny.

no, I think he was just as unstoppable. And what do you know, they both lost in the same round. If rodgers went down, that team is good enough to still make the playoffs, not so with Breese.

Easy for you to say, but how do you know, Brees hasn't missed a game in a long time(week 17 of the '09 season). You have never seen Chase Daniel play a full game in the NFL to know whether or not he is as capable of leading them to victory. You're grasping for straws.

Not really. I agree with them. Chase Daniel isn't capable of the same stat lines as Brees, and isn't the winner Brees is.

I don't like saying it anymore than you like hearing it. I hate Brees. But he was robbed.

We all have our opinions, but until Daniel at least gets to play a full game you can't judge him at the NFL level. Let's face it, you don't necessarily need a padded stat line in order to win games. Also, the same could have been said for Brees, of not being a "winner" when he was in San Diego, and look at him now. I'm not going to sit here and say Daniel would be really great or that he'd be pitiful and way over his head, but until he's given the opportunity you're just casting stones based on, at most, his college play. There were a lot of people that said the same thing about Matt Flynn before he got a shot to play in the NFL, especially those that followed him while he was at LSU. He didn't have a stellar college career, playing as backup to Jararcus Russel(THE Jamarcus Russell) for 3 years and only got to start in his senior year with Russell gone to the NFL. The only reason anyone is using him as a gauge is because they've seen him in action in at least one meaningful NFL game. I think I've made my point. Brees didn't get shafted, he played great all year, just as Rodgers did. I think the right player got the award.

Hell I think Brady should got the award instead of Rodgers. If Brady got hurt do you really think the Pats would be in the super bowl? nope. If Brees got hurt do you really think the saints would had made it to the playoffs? nope. The packers would still be a decent team without Rodgers. Rodgers is a great QB just like Brady and Brees but this is for the most valuable player and both Brady and Brees are more valuable to their teams then Rodgers is to the packers.

What I don't get is how Rodgers had one stellar year and people are lumping him in with Brady, Manning, Montana, etc...
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

Based on this logic Payton Manning should be the MVP.

I've said that a few times too.
