Rangers admitted yesterday that they were interested in Carl Crawford. He's signed with the Red Sox for 7 yrs/$142 million. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...html?eref=sihp

Between Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez, these guys should have the power to overtake the Yanks again...which I think makes them even more desperate to get Lee now. I fear the Yanks will throw out an offer no one can or will want to match.

Braunecker left the winter meetings yesterday without a formal offer from the Rangers but had 6 years from the Yankees. The Rangers have told Braunecker "What is it going to take to sign Lee?" and were open to giving him 6 years. Once the Yankees got wind of this and the Red Sox signed Crawford they immediately offered 7 years knowing that the Rangers would be hard pressed to go that high.

I'm dreaming I know but I'd love to see a Garza - Longoria deal for Young, Sheppers, Davis and maybe a draft pick or two. Then pick up Greinke and sign Vlad and we'll have all the ammo we need to beat the Yankees again.

I don't think Sheppers is going anywhere. At least i wouldn't send him anywhere else.

i just read where the rangers are making a trip to little rock to meet with lee and his agent and possibly opening up to the idea of a deal longer than 5 years.

I think the Rangers have already admitted they would go 6 years for Lee but 7 better be out of the question. I am not to thrilled about 6 to be honest. I wish the Yankees would just get it over with. They need to offer Lee a 30 year 3 trillion dollar offer and end it.

If we lose Lee we need another pitcher. That turns us on to Greinke or Garza so i go after the one that costs us the least amount of prospects. I still stand by my earlier plan of moving Feliz into the rotation and then signing Soriano from the Devil Rays. I still think Feliz needs a few more years to master a changeup. We should have enough money still to add a couple of bats and start thinking of locking up Hamilton and Andrus in a few years.

Do these things and we will compete with the Yankees this year even with Lee. The Red Sox will be beasts but you never know with injuries like last season.

                LOL saw this on twitter:

Breaking: CliffLee will decide the Arkansas way. Yanks/Tex GM line up - drink beer - race to bat. Forehead on bat. Spin. Run back. Winner wins.

I think he is going to look at both deals and decide what he and his family wants to do. Yea the Yankees will have the most money, but New York has state taxes that I heard will take at least 3 million dollars off a year. So it could be up to 21 million dollars.

                      Interesting...

Norm had Chuck Greenberg on this morning, and he said that 95% of these speculation articles/rumors are untrue. I guess we will see soon enough.

So it isn't true that they sent the big money dog, Ryan Davis, up to see Lee? I guarantee there is truth to alot of what is being said.

Greenberg doesn't want to back down to the Yankees. That is just my opinion from my seat on the 7th floor in this big building in downtown dallas.

No, not that at all. They did in fact have a meeting with Lee on Wednesday.

He was just insinuating that most of these reports about terms, length, money, etc are bullshit. He was a minor league owner previously, so while this is his first year as a major league owner he said it's about the same as far as truth behind the stories. For instance, the Report that they out Young on the trading block.

Where there is smoke there is fire. We can all safely assume the Yankees are the highest bidder. There is no doubt reports are exaggerated or misinformed, but I have to think the numbers they are telling us are pretty close to spot on with all the money Worth and Crawford got.

I just hope that he signs a long term deal with the Rangers and can prove that there is at least one player in this league that can't be bought by the Yankees.

Everyone knows he's going to get $22-24 million for at least 5 years, the bickering is over years 6 and 7. The Rangers probably offered a mutual option for 6 with a $5 million buyout while the Yankees offered $15 million with another $10 million available with performance incentives and an option on year 7.

A 38 year old pitcher wants guaranteed money, not performance incentives. The Yankees have had good luck with older veteran pitchers like Petitte and Clemens, the Rangers haven't (Ryan obviously excluded).

I hope he stays here and the Rangers make a smart decision. I'd just really hate to end up with a 38 year old pitching coach making $25 million a year in a few seasons if he can't play.
