Looking good. That Mahinmi guy isn't turrible. I love seeing the togetherness of this team, or the 'team unit'. They seem to be very fluid, feed off each other, etc. I know this is the way it's supposed to be, it just seems to be more prevalent this year than in recent years.

And you know, I was dead against the Kidd trade from the start, and even as recent as last year. But the old bastard just keeps on ballin, so hat's off to him.

ya, old guy is pretty good but he was amazing last year too, especially after the all star break. it's just too bad he was a complete no show in the SA series. it really was the missing factor.

im really hoping for roddy to come back and take the majority of barrea's minutes.

The best-known owner in the NBA, of course, is the aforementioned Mark Cuban of the Dallas Mavericks. Always a funny guy, Cuban was actively involved in the game from the opening tip to the final buzzer. In fact, he was so animated in his cheering on the Mavericks that he often looked exhausted after a game. Anyone who follows pro basketball knows that Cuban is the consummate bleacher referee, but to his credit, he is usually right when he complains about missed calls. I was one of the few refs in the league who would watch tape of an entire game after in was completed. Sitting in my hotel room in front of a TV, I would fast forward and rewind until I was certain that we either goat a call right or that we blew the call. Nine times out of ten, Cuban was right on the money with his assessment. A very savvy basketball guy, albeit a loud and crazy one.

I always had a friendly, easy relationship with Cuban, but I was the exception to the rule when it came to NBA referees and league officials. The league office instructed us on many occasions to avoid contact with Cuban and to ignore him when he initiated contact. Still, every time I worded a Dallas game, I would say hello from a distance.

I knew from the get go that Dallas didn't have a chance in the 2006 NBA finals; people in the NBA front office had no love for Cuban and the majority of referees had even less. Because of Cuban's many suggestions directed at improving the quality of NBA officiating, the average workload had increased greatly. Ed T. Rush, the Supervisor of Officials, constantly reminded all of us that Cuban was solely responsible for our extra job responsibilities, mostly concerning post game reports and statistical tracking. Any way you slice it, Dallas was always facing an uphill battle against the referees.

Ronnie Nunn, who replaced Ed Rush as our boss, once told me that the league was "relieved" when the Mavericks were knocked out of the playoffs because the front office wouldn't have to deal with Cuban's constant phone calls, emails, and complaints. In the 2006 NBA finals, the Mavs won the first two games of the series against the Miami Heat at home. As the series shifted to Miami, the league office began flooding the games three and four referees with videos of plays from games one and two that the higher-ups felt should have been called in favor of Miami. The message was predictable and very clear: Miami was going to have an advantage in its own building, thus prolonging the series and socking it to Mark Cuban. With millions of dollars worth of network revenue on the line, a sweep by the Mavs was out of the question. In a strange and unprecedented reversal of fortune, Miami swept their three games at home and went on to win the series in six. In game five, the referees handed Miami a tremendous advantage by awarding the Heat 49 free throws during the contest, compared to just 25 for Dallas (the Heat won the game by one point). In the NBA, it's tough enough for one team's five players to beat another team's five. But when it's five against eight, and three of the eight are referees, forget about it-you've got no shot.

Saw that. They were pretty solid against the Jazz. They had won a couple in a row, but it looks like that game against Cleveland really seemed to energize Lebron and they're hot now.
