If there was no demand, they wouldn't make that kind of money. But the NFL is a multi billion dollar industry. It's just the way it is. You also have to realize that is incentive laden. It's really only a little over $5 million a year that is guaranteed.
That's kind of surprising coming from you. Aren't UFC guys DRASTICALLY underpaid?Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

MY problem with athletes making that kind of insane money, is that they no longer are pure athletes in it for the love of the sport, but rather is becomes a business. Players don't play as hard in fear of injury that could cost them more money.
Big money brings big corruption and interruption of the sport. Let's talk about the few UFC fighters who have made the "big" money in the sport.
Liddell, Ortiz, Lesnar, Silva. Highest paid UFC fighters in history to date. Everyone one of them are world class fuck up in one way or another, rarely fight, pick and choose who they are willing to fight, bitch about billing, PPV's percentages and then undeliever on their performances.
That's why Dana White's business model works so well with the rest of the 99% of the fighters. He hasn't allowed just any of the fighters make that kind of money. He keeps them hungry so they will fight hard rather than being pussy primmadonnas like NFL/NBA players and professional boxing.
It's even fucked up college football and those guys aren't even getting paid yet (supposedly) but because of the promise of fame and fortune, they play like businessmen rather than athletes.
I don't want UFC fighters to make insane money like the rest of professional sports, then it's less about fighting and martial arts than it is money, getting famous and all that shit. I don't want to see the UFC running into union problems like the NFL/NBA. It's the fans who suffer in that shit, while players on their yachts on the other side of the world laughing about it all.
JMO's.

Is there a union for the fighters? If not, you know it is coming one day.

Just curious. I seem to remember a thread on the old board about how severely underpaid UFC fighters were, and seeing some of the same stuff. How only a handful are well compensated, and even then, it's more from endorsement deals. I could have sworn you were trying to say they all deserved more money, because what the majority gets paid, it's not enough to even make a living. And I don't even disagree with that, but that's what threw me off about your comments. And hell, my memory isn't the best, either. It might have been Adam that was making those points.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

That's not alot of money to pay for year round training, nutrition, proper healthcare which most fighters don't have and insurance to cover serious injury.
So more money? Certainly.
Millions for a single fight? Hell no.
THat's how you end up with pitter patter, sissy fighters like Mayweather Jr who just wants to get by to get on to his next pay day, rather than actually fight.

I agree.
Lower ticket prices for fans, reduce income for teams, salaries for players and staff to compensate.
I mean really, the problem is on both sides, the players feel they deserve that big money, and the owners feel they deserve even more money too. The professional sports industry as a whole needs to take a step back and realize what they exist for. The fans, without someone here to watch the teams, buy the merch, eat the hotdogs, there wouldn't be any money for the teams.

There should be some middle ground between the crazy money from the big 3 sports and the piss poor money from UFC. You have to realize though, before the unions came into play for the big 3, those players weren't making shit either. Unions are a double edged sword, but the UFC fighters probably need some resemblance of one to fight against Dana White.
It will happen.
