Four LSU football players involved in a bar fight last Thursday have hired a lawyer and postponed a meeting with Baton Rouge police that was scheduled for today.

On Friday, it was revealed that quarterback Jordan Jefferson and other football players were involved in a fight outside a bar that sent four people to the hospital.

Over the weekend, multiple witnesses told television station WAFB that Jefferson kicked a man in the head while he was on the ground after trying to intervene in the scuffle.

The incident started when a man honked his horn at a group of people that were blocking his way out of the parking lot. According to WFAB:

That's when [witness] say a group of people pulled the driver out of the truck and began beating him. That's when they say a Marine who had just returned from training ran to assist the driver and was beaten and thrown to the ground. Multiple people who claim to have witnessed the incident tell 9NEWS LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson then kicked the Marine in the head.

LSU coach Les Miles said he will not punish individual players until all the details are revealed.

LSU begins the season in a showdown with Oregon at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas on Sept. 3.

Ominously, Las Vegas sports books have stopped taking win-totals bets on LSU amid the uncertainty around Jefferson's future.

UPDATE:

BATON ROUGE, LA. — LSU starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson and three teammates met Tuesday with investigators looking into a bar fight that injured four people, and police say they were cooperative.

"They did not invoke the Fifth Amendment. They gave their side of the story," said Baton Rouge Police Chief Dewayne White. "They provided additional witnesses they knew were there that night, and those were witnesses we intend to run down and get their statement."

The most seriously injured victim has three broken vertebrae, White said.

There have been no arrests, and no charges have been filed, but White emphasized that police hope to gather enough evidence to arrest whoever is responsible for the victims' injuries.

If arrests are made, charges could range from misdemeanor simple battery to felony second-degree battery.

Jefferson, offensive lineman Chris Davenport, linebacker Josh Johns and receiver Jarvis Landry were interviewed separately at state police headquarters during a span of several hours.

Defense attorney Nathan Fisher declined to discuss the alleged version of events at the bar, saying only that he has obtained video that shows "four separate incidents" related to the fight. Police have said the fight erupted after a driver honked his horn at a group of people standing in the parking lot. The driver also was one of the people involved in the fight.

Baton Rouge police Sgt. Don Stone said in a statement Friday that investigators have contacted the players' attorney, Nathan Fisher, and LSU coach Les Miles, and asked for the players to turn themselves in.

Jefferson and Johns, a linebacker, face felony charges for their alleged roles in a fight outside Shady's bar in Baton Rouge on Aug. 19.

A police report says a 19-year-old woman named Victoria Long said she witnessed several LSU players beating one of the alleged victims and saw Jefferson kick that man in the face.
