  • Texas A&M Leaving For SEC?

    From ESPN.com

Texas governor Rick Perry says his alma mater, Texas A&M, and the SEC are discussing the Aggies possible future membership in the league, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.

Perry was asked by reporters from the paper on Wednesday about recent swirling speculation surrounding the move.

"I'll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y'all did. ... As far as I know, conversations are being had. That's frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there."

Perry once served as a yell leader for the university, whose president, R. Bowen Loftin, recently acknowledged that there was "uncertainty" regarding the university's future membership in the Big 12.

Texas A&M released this statement to the Dallas Morning News: "President Loftin is committed to doing what is best for Texas A&M not only now, but also into the future. We continue to have wide-ranging conversations regarding all aspects of the university, including both academics and athletics."

Texas A&M discussed membership in the league last summer with the Big 12's future in doubt, but university leaders chose to remain in the Big 12.

Texas A&M leaders have expressed concern about the Longhorn Network's effect on the longterm stability of the Big 12, and rumors of renewed talks between the university and the conference have persisted in recent weeks.

I went to A&M and they've been talking about this for a while. There are a lot of reasons why they would make the move. I'm all for it. The big 12 has always sucked and has never had the luster that the SWC did. I was hoping the Big 12 would go get TCU, Houston or SMU but it's not looking like any of that is going to happen. I predict the Big 12 will be dead in 3 years. A&M was talking to UT and OU to make the move but they said no. And why wouldn't they. They own the conference and make a ton of money off it.

Stupid move IMO. Blatantly ignorant, even. They can't even win in the Big XII. They damn sure can't even hold the SEC's collective jock strap. Just like Nebraska. Waaaah, waaaah, waaaah. Crybabies.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

So how long before OU, UT, Tech and OSU bail for the super PAC10 if this goes through?

Yea this is most likely the end for the Big 12 if Missouri leaves too. That would go from 10 to 8 teams, and I think other teams like OU, TT, will leave as well. Another school that will be recuited to join another conference will be Kansas cause of their basketball program.

Sportscenter and their online videos have briefly thrown out mizzou clemson and fsu as potential SEC candidates as well at the very end of their piece on A&M

Just got an email from A&M titled "It's time for Texas A&M to chart our own course". Its all but done and there will also be an annoucement soon that A&M renovating Kyle Field ($100+ million from a secret donor).

I think this all started when the teams left last year and the LHN was icing on the cake. When those teams left last year Bebe should have tried to get TCU and someone like Utah. Plus his comments this past week about A&M just made matters worse.

In the sports that make money A&M does fairly well: basketball (women's national champions), baseball (regional finalist), football (getting there and recruiting class for next year is stacked), track (men's and women's national champions for 3 years in a row).

I think you will be looking at 4 super conferences in the coming years. I have not decided if I like the thought of that but its all about money.
