  • Marc Bulger Retires

Marc Bulger, the longtime NFL quarterback who was expected to attract some interest in free agency this year, has instead opted to retire.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Bulger had opportunities but decided he wanted to retire from football and focus more on his charitable foundation, which works with members of the military.

Although there were reports during the lockout that Bulger may already have an understanding with the Cardinals that he was going to Arizona, Bulger’s decision to retire tends to support the theory of his old teammate Kurt Warner, who said Bulger is at a point where he should “just enjoy life and not have to worry about the pressure of being an NFL starter.”

Bulger entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick of the Saints in 2000 and had his best years in St. Louis as the successor to Kurt Warner as the quarterback for the “Greatest Show on Turf.”

Bulger threw for 22,814 yards, 122 touchdowns, and 93 interceptions in his career.

As a Rams fan when he first came on to the scene when Warner went down with injury he was amazing to watch. Was he as good as Warner, no. Was he as accurate as Warner, no. But from 2002-2006 he was pretty darn good. But once his offensive line fell apart and got old he got beaten up in his last 3 years in St. Louis. I dont blame him for retiring, and now he can enjoy life.

I still think the Rams would have been better off keeping Warner. I think the Rams really shot themselves in the foot when they let him go.

yea me too, but in 2003 Warner had problems gripping the ball cause of his thumb. He couldn't grip it as well until he started wearing a glove when he went to Arizona. I dont think it was a horrible decision cause he was pretty good until the offense just fell apart around him, expecially the offensive line. I wasn't happy when he got his contract, but I did think it was somewhat earned.

If your franchise quarter back has a hurt thumb, you don't let him go.

well i dont think they thought he could've have been what he was prior the injury. I know I wasn't all too happy at first but its a business.
