  • Angels' Santana no-hitter

How is this such a big story, it's all over espn. The guy "technically" threw a no-hitter, but the other team scored on a wild pitch. They're acting like he did something special. Even if it wasn't a technically earned run, his poor pitch allowed them to score. It was his fault that they didn't shut em out, he shouldn't be getting credit like he had a perfect game.

I will admit that he threw a good game, but it's nothing worth going crazy about.

I was saying that earlier when I saw it. If I remember correctly the Angels had 5 Errors and Santana had 3 walks. Im sorry but yea its a no hitter but the wild pitch gave up a run, and his defense was horrible with those errors. ESPN is hyping that up way too much, but I guess they needed something other than football to talk about

Ya, right after I typed that I remembered that espn studios is in LA. They're always up the Angels/Lakers asses. As far as i'm concerned the run may not have been from a hit, but it should be charged to Santana for his bad pitch. It's a no-no with an asterisk at best. It's getting on my nerves though, they've had this story on 20 out of every 30 minutes. It's just not that big of a deal.

It's still a no-hitter. Hell, Andy Hawkins pitched a no-hitter that he actually LOST 1-0! There's only been 20 "perfect games" (no hits, no walks, no errors, no hit batsmen, etc) pitched in baeball history, so don't get the two confused. Hawkins had walked the bases loaded and a deep ball was hit for a sacrifice fly, and the run scored. So unless it's a "perfect game", there will be baserunners.

I get the baserunners. It's the fact that the run scored because of a bad pitch that he threw. It's not technically an earned run, but the runner scored because of the pitch. If the pitcher is at fault for the run being scored, it might as well of been earned on him. Just my opinion, I know the MLB doesn't really care what I think though.

If the error was never committed by the SS, the runner would have never been on base in the first place. The wild pitch that allowed the runner to score wouldn't even be talked about right now.

Honestly that error may have saved Santana. That wasn't going to be a sure play at 1st anyways with the runner's speed. If he hadn't screwed up the grab there might not of ever been a no-hitter.

I agree. It looked like the SS was being a bit lazy on the play.
