Did you happen to read this article or hear any of the interview it was refering to?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar...ory?id=5824776

Here is another stating that they knew early on that they would have fuel mileage issues so conserving would not really help them. Johnson was told to conserve fuel starting with the caution at 88 laps to go and then Denny stayed out during the last caution.

Here is another that was an interview after the season was over. Hamlin said "being short on the fuel mileage because of increased engine power in his Toyota this season ultimately hurt him.

    http://www.sbnation.com/nascar/2010/...peedway-finish

Another huge issue not many have mentioned is his 37th qualifying spot at Homestead which ultimately lead to his early crash. Last race of the season and your up by 15 points and talking about be extremely aggressive. He tried to race his way to the front very early and got in trouble being to aggressive. There has been numerous times this season they have struggled badly on qualifying day only to be the dominant car on race day. The last race of the season was the worst to come up with the 37th spot in the lineup.

I also listened to the crew chiefs on totally nascar. As mentioned, they reported Denny was not low on fuel when they brought him in. Ford made a bad miscalculation. There was plenty of fuel left in the car. That was a point brought up as to why did they not tell Denny to back off when he and Carl were racing hard for the lead. If they knew they were low on fuel, it was never mentioned. Also as Hamlin himself said, his fuel pressure gauge never once showed signs of low fuel. Thats why Hamlin was still mad about the race and didnt want to discuss it anymore heading into the final race.

When I mentioned that JGR gets better mileage than most, thats on an average and not just a stretch of a couple of races. Thats another thing that was brought up by Ray Everham, Gibbs cars are among the best in milage week in and week out. When was the last time JGR lost a race due to fuel? It really doesnt matter at this point. All I know is that if Jimmy wins 6 in a row, Im done with nascar until somebody else wins.

Its cool to have somebody else in the discussion with their own views and opinions, and be mature about it. Rather than have the usual "Nascar sucks" posts.

To be honest, I didnt listen to those. My point was that I was listening to them on the team radio. Ford himself admitted he may have screwed up. Lets be totally honest, they all ( every nascar team ) is good at covering up what really goes on or what happens unless your there in the garage or shop. And of course it helps when you can listen to the chatter from driver to crew chief. We know what they want us to know. How many times have drivers or crew chiefs chaned their original statements after a talk with the boss or a little "cool down " period? LOL

That was part of my quoating Ray Everyham when he said no matter what, there was no way to be 10 laps off of what everybody else was even with bad mileage.

i do thank you for the different interviews. It really does boil down to what source you want to follow. I chose to go by way of the majority that I heard and they seemed to go the way of Fords bad calculating.

As far as the day of the race, yes he qualified bad with a 15 point lead. My point to that was had that fuel mishap not happened, he would have come in with a 60/65 point lead. He would have won the title regardless of what Johnson did, barring Denny didn't wreck.

Hell, I wish you guys would have been around during the season. Or at least had more threads about racing. We could have had some good debates and discussions.

I really don't come to the sports forum very often even though I am a sports junky and haven't really noticed any other nascar posts. I will definitely be here more once the season starts and we can start some good discussions. As you can tell I am a big JGR and Denny Hamlin fan. I have been a FedEx employee for 19 years so I am obviously partial to Hamlin. It was tough for me when they switched to Toyota but I have adjusted nicely. I am a Ford nut so being a GM based team wasn't easy for me but then the Toyota switch just about sent me elsewhere. I was at the TMS race in April and November in full Hamlin gear. During the November race I was sitting right behind a row of Harvick fans who tormented the hell out of me the whole race. It was good fun when they fell dead silent near the end and had to listen to me cheer Hamlin to the win. It will be great to have some nice Nascar discussions going on regularly.

I have been a 24 fan since the begining. So I know all to well about taking shit at races. LOL I feel your pain. Looking forward to next season. I was not a fan of hamlin during his early years of blaming everybody but himself. Even when he sped on pit row and blamed the crew for not telling him. But he seems to have matured and is a true challenge to the crown.

I still think he is the best pure driver out there, when he can get his head straight and out of his ass. It sucks for me. He was my replacement for when Jeff was done. I dont know who that will be now. It sucks Gibbs went with toyota!

This is how big of a Labonte fan I am. I damn near have every 1:64th paint scheme of him in the interstate batteries colors. I have close to 30 of them. Some of the ones that he drove in the 43 in, about 5. Like 6 1:24 scake cars including his Iroc car that he won the championship in 2001. I have 4 of those signed by him. A big fathead of him in the 43 from 2006. 3 or 4 photos signed by him. Ive been a Bobby fan since 1997 or 98. Everytime he does an autograph session I usually got wait in line. I agree that Kyle is probably the best pure driver in all the Nascar series. To bad his attitude and immaturity dominate over his driving skill. Some of the things he has done this year the Truck and Nationwide series are mind boggling but when the competition gets tighter in Nascar his true colors shine through. I am hoping he will mature over time but I have been saying that for several years now.

Damn!! You seem to be like me with my 24 shrine. I to collect his cars from different years. But I like to collect my own. A lot of people buy me stuff thinking I'll enjoy it because it has Jeff or his car on it. They dont realize that I dont just collect stuff. It has to be of value. LOL

He still has time. He will eventually realize he has to think and not just drive eventually. When that happens..... good luck to the rest of the field.

I still think he will eventually come around. He beats a lot of the sprint cup drivers (Harvick, Edwards, Hamlin, Kezlowski) in the nationwide series as well. He can be an ass outside of the car all he wants. He just needs to learn to watch his temper trantrums and not get irritated so easily. I feel thats what keeps him from being a champion. Or at least a huge part of it.

You think the changes at hendricks will do any good? Im still skeptical a bit. Also, what do you think about Richard Petty running RPM again for the new owners? I hate to say, I love the king and all but I dont think he has the business sense to do it. He ran it into the ground when he owned most of it. Now he will be playing with somebody else's money.

I disagree with Letarte leaving the 24. They are a good combo, just because they didnt win a race dosent mean they werent competitive. The first half of the year the 24 was right there.

As for RPM, well Richard Petty's racing team has been a sinking ship ever since John Andretti left. They merged with Yates, which honestly was more hype than good. Yates Racing isn't what they used to be 10 years ago with the 88 and 28. But downsizing to 2 cars instead of 4 will be good. Now they dont have to spread out the operation, they can just build 2 solid cars for Ambrose and Allmendinger.

Interested point of view. Totally agree with your down sizing statement. But I was never impressed with John Andretti. He was decent at best in my opinion. Kind of riding the family name like Jr. at the moment. But at least Jr. did have a few wins in his early years at the top level.
