Actually I was a senior in HS when Dallas got the Mavericks franchise and yes I was a fan from the first year. I also remember my dad taking us to see the Dallas Roadrunners as a kid, so I guess Ive been a Dallas Basketball fan since gradeschool, so I guess you're sorta of right dickbump .

Coop and Henry, there were MANY bandwagon fans on the old site when the Mavs stunk it up against Miami. I don't have the patience or time to go back there and do a search..

If you don't want to go look, then don't generalize to the majority of people here, ya birther. And BTW at the old site I said that David Stern and the crooked ass refs stole the series from us, it wasn't for a lack of effort on the Mavs part IMO.

Unfortunately there's not a stat for "chocking". There's also not a stat for game winning field goals which I know Dirk has made many of. Again, Bird had a much better supporting cast than Dirk has ever had and they were together for a very long time. Bird didn't have a supporting cast of Josh Howard, Erik Dampier, Marquis Daniels, Keith Van Horn, etc. I think Dirk has done very well with what he had and if Bird had played with a not so great cast of team mates things might have been different.

The comment I originally responded to, was that "Bird's got nothing on Dirk", and it's just not true. Dirk is a great player, and he's the player of the moment.

Please specify the bandwagon fans. I for one am a sports fan and specifically a Football/Dallas Cowboy fan. I've also been a DM fan since we got the franchise, I am not however a BB fan since I've always felt that it was a fixed game/sport and here a few years ago my suspicions were proven correct.

Please understand that I know Dirk is great. I also remember a lot of these same guys calling Dirk a "choker" not too long ago. Fairweathered? Maybe. I don't EVER recall Bird choking in a big game/series, or anyone accusing him of that.

Dirk is a great player...but I think due to the lack of him being aggressive in the past is what has made him lose credibility....however I think what separates him from the other greats is a few championship rings..good luck to him this year!
