Best as in most dominating while active or someone who has been successful in several other series?

Richard Petty is obvious for Nascar
John Force is obvious for NHRA
Shumacher is obvious for F-1
Rossi is obvious for motoGP

Robby Gordon has to be one of the most diverse drivers ever though. Yeah he's an also ran in Nascar but he's dominated in off road racing of all types for years. He's the only American that shows up to every Dakar rally and finishes in the top 10. He also has done decent in Indy and CART cars in the past.

All time best driver ever at anything though, you'd have a hard time convincing me it's not Mario Andretti.

Travis Pastrana has to be on a list of diverse racers. He's won motoX championships, completely dominated FMX, killed it in WRC and he's racing Nascar now along with some stints in monster trucks.

Tony Stewart could go in that catergory, also Jeff Gordon. Gordon did that ride swipe with Montoya at Indy and Gordon was running times that were near the front row the previous years US Grand Prix.

yea kinda left out those first two. Force and McGrath. I can say Kyle is one of the greatest. No Championships, no big races that he has won. In time, maybe.

WRC gets no love?! Tommi Makinen or Colin McRae should easily be contenders. Richard Burns (who would probably have broken all of the records before his untimely death) should also get a nod. Senna is and will always be no. 1. I appreciate nascar and all but it's not real racing until you actually make some turns. Just my opinion...
