1080p, 600hz, 3m:1 contrast ratio, slim-line(so it only weighs around 90 lbs I believe), energy saving. The tv was only $1199, but of course I got the warranty and all that so it came out just under $1500. I had the option of going with the same tv with 3d capabilities for $300 more, but I just can't see myself using it, so I decided against it. I'm extremely happy with it so far. Major upgrade from my 4 year old 46 inch Samsung lcd.

I have a Panasonic Viera 50" Plasma. It replaced a DLP that I had for years that finally bit the dust. Wife and I are happy with it. Built in Anti-Image Retention, Anti-Glare Filter, etc.. Deep blacks and vibrant colors. No motion blurring. I think it gives a more film like picture in 24p mode with a Blu-ray that is 24p. There is also a lot of room for calibrating and fine tuning a Plasma. avsforum has info on how to access the service menus to make very fine minute changes that are not available in the normal set up menu.
People don't like Plasmas because if you buy the shitty ones you have burn in issues, heavy reflection in brighter rooms, and some models are power hungry. However, if you buy good Plasmas, then you don't have to deal with these issues.

however, the tv has a util that will scramble it back.. otherwise hook up an old vcr and let the "snow" fix it.
samsung 50"
and you should have a built in horizontal wipe feature specifically to erase burn in. i haven't had to use it yet on mine, but it should be there even on the older or cheaper plasma models. check your setup settings and go through the picture/video mode or anti-retention sub menu, if you have one.
