  • what is wrong with a plasma??

Someone school me as to why people look down on plasma tvs....

I personally see nothing wrong with a plasma. But, LED and LCD are thinner, lighter and produce less heat. They also have no glare when watching from a room with a lot of windows, where a plasma will. There isn't a thing wrong with a plasma, it's just the changing of the times. Technology is progressing.

As far as I know, they've fixed the burn-in issue they used to have correct? The main issue seems to be with the glass on the front of the screen being glary. They seem to be a lot cheaper than the new LCD and LED tvs, so I'm trying to see what would be best for me.

Everybody has different tastes in this world, so just because Me EDDDDDDDDD wouldn't like a plasma, doesn't mean you won't

Personally, I think they have some of the best pictures(aside from blacks). But like I said, everyone has different tastes. If it looks good to you, and it's cheap, then go for it! If I'm not mistaken, their life expectancy is 60,000 hours. So that's a good bit of TV watching I'm not real sure about the burn in issues anymore. I really haven't been paying too much attention to the plasmas in quite some time. I upgraded my living room TV from a 42" plasma, to a 55" LED. And I went the LED route simply for weight issues. The TV in the living room is mounted above the fire place, in brick. So I couldn't go too much larger with a plasma due to their weight.

We have plasmas, LCDs, and DLPs in my house, and the plasmas have the best picture. They do put off a lot of heat. It's noticeable when you walk within a few feet of it. Glare is an issue at times. And even though they aren't supposed to get burn-in anymore, both of mine have visible lines on the sides from where some shows weren't in widescreen format. I think it's an issue that will never be 100% fixed with plasmas.

Are the lines distracting? They don't show when the tv is on do they?

I have zero problems with my plasma and do not regret buying it.

I would not buy another one though at least for aux TVs. LCD or LED. Why? Heat.

Now, when the time comes around to buy another 58 or bigger TV - I'll consider a plasma due to their picture quality. However, I'm guessing LED/LCD TVs are going to be decent as well.

Literally, my plasma puts out 110-120F over most of the screen. In the Texas summer that sucks. That's not including what will be bleeding off from the back vents and such.

The real and perceived issues with plasmas would not even make me hesitate on buying one. Their picture quality is still outstanding, if not the best available, and now that the pricing is lower, they are becoming an even better value.

They barely show, just when certain colors are displayed over the lines.

My plasma rocks. It will sometimes temporarily "burn in" but goes away within seconds after changing the screen. It wouldn't be good if in a bright room.

I love my 50" plasma. Will most likely buy another one for the bedroom.

I have a plasma in the LR and a LCD in the BR. I personally like the plasma better. I've only experienced burn-in one time when the GF left the Netflix mainpage up for a couple of hours. My tv has a "screen-wipe" type process that is supposed to remove burn-in. I ran it for about 3 minutes and it looks fine again.

Thanks guys! The best deals I've found are for plasmas, I think I'll be bringing one home with me later today!

I can comment on the burn in as I have run into this a few times with mine. I will spare the long story leading up to it and just give details. I have had 3 instances of burn in (left on a fixed image for an hour or two) that was on my screen for about a day. It was gone after a day or two of tv watching and can't tell it was even there.

I am not saying it won't happen but the few times it was burned in it was gone within a day. After everything that has happened I am pretty confident I won;t have any issues. I have played games, left it on guide and everything that ha sbeen bad for these tv's in the past with no issues.
