  • Suggestions needed for a new reciever

I've had a Sony STR777ES for about 10-11 years, and the rear channel finally quit. My first thought was to have it fixed since it is a great receiver, but it is old, only 5.1 and no HDMI. I also had more disposable income back then, so I doubt I could afford it's equivalent these days, if there is one.

I think my budget will be in the $500 range, but I might be able to swing more if the perfect receiver is out there.

    Opinions?

I'll sell ya my Kenwood 1090VR for 100 bucks. It was Kenwoods top dog Dolby Digital receiver in 1998.

Why would I replace a 10 year old receiver with a 13 year old receiver?

            Sorry for the delay.

Yes, I highly recommend the latest series of Onkyo HDMI switching receivers. I've actually never had a single issue with 1.1 or 1.3a or the newer 1.4 HDMI specification Onkyo AVRs. At least none that I've owned myself or installed for someone else interfacing with varying brands of gear. I have had Sony, Yamaha, and Samsung cause lots of grief. In the mid level price range for the average consumer, I always go Onkyo. Great imaging, surround detail, dialogue reproduction, power with ample overhead for those who like to watch movies at reference levels, etc...

It all depends on your budget. If money is absolutely no object, then I would recommend Marantz or Anthem.

I'd make the same offer for a TX-SR700.
