If I did that, I might just keep the factory head units for the radio.

You should still throw a nice Alpine in it with a USB/iPod port and get rid of that junk. I can't believe you still have a stock head unit in that car after everything else you've done to it. lol

The idea was to keep the car as stock appearing. The interior is the last to loose that battle. There may be a cage, rear seat delete with mounted kid seat, and new radio in the works. I need to make it as comfy as possible since we are gonna try and do the Long Haul next year on the Power Tour.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I definitely get that, as I like to keep my interiors stock as well. I remember being disgusted by the gaudy aftermarket chrome door switches and AC controls that were all the rage in the early 00's.

Gotta have a nice stereo to roll though! It will also help having that USB/iPod port on long trips. I had EW hook that Alpine up in my '99 right before I took the Roswell Road Trip and it was a good investment. Had the iPod cable run to the glovebox and just kept it in there locked at all times.

Scored a http://www.kenwoodusa.com/KVT-696 headunit and this nav unit http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...ation/KNA-G610 from a buddy taking it out of his Jeep. He is going hog wild with EW (i think) and a big Alpine unit.

It already has the 2012 updated maps for the navigation. Now to pick out an amp for the Focals and call it a day.

            PM EW - seriously.

There is no place on the face of the earth that would've done what he did...

I will go through him for the amps and other stuff......hard to pass up on free Kenwood head unit and nav unit.

I need EW to hook me up with remote start in my 2002 F150 too. I will let them do all the work on that thing though.

Why not a pillar mount gauge pod? I had a three gauge pod on my 95 although I got into a group buy for it on The Corral at the time because I could only find two gauge pods. Haven't looked and don't know if things have changed.

I also have friends that have had the higher end head units with nav, and the nav was glitchy at best.
Exactly the same reason why I have a seperate GPS unit and not one built into the vehicle. I have two cars and like having the ability to swap between them. Plus the fact that in some areas I may not be able to get data and/or using my phone for other things.

Google Maps has had the ability to download map data for offline use for a couple of versions now. I think the first iteration of it only downloaded a limited amount of map data but the newer one allows for a bigger area.

I have one I can use. However, it is just a pod not a full pillar. They kind of look like bandaids to me and they don't make a full pillar for a vert. I might place it with some gauges and see if I like it from the driver's seat but I wanted to keep everything lower than the top of the dash line.

So it's just one pod? The one I had fit three gauges. I liked it because it was easier to monitor while driving and I didn't want to use the space you are thinking about using because I had a head unit plus a separate EQ (old school even for that time).

It is a 2 gauge pod but it does not go all the way up the pillar or down to meet the dash.

My coupe had a 3 gauge pillar pod and I liked having them there. But with the convertible and the top down I wanted a little less visible. Hell, I may test them there and find that I will keep them just to make things easier. Who knows. I get home in a few days and will start playing with it all.

I do know I got a smoking hook up on the head unit and nav from my buddy so now I am thinking amps and I am done. Already sent EW an PM.

Ya the only thing I hated about having pillar mounted gauges is that everybody knew you had something if they saw that. For you it might not be a big deal but for me it was.

That's awesome you got a hook up on the head unit and nav. I forgot to mention earlier but for the speaker box I had a JL Audio Stealthbox with a single 10" subwoofer. May not sound like much but it sounded awesome in my car once I got a good amp pushing it. They are pricey though but the setup looks stock and for the casual user may not even know a speaker box was back there. Definitely get with EW. He's a good guy, very knowledgeable, and a good friend.

I have dealt with EW on a few things. Hopefully they can do a remote start in my truck next week and he can get me fixed up on the amp side of this project, maybe a subwoofer too.

I am doing a rear seat delete and could mount one or two in the back panel. I want to mount our daughter's seat in the center of the rear so when a cage goes in, the seat will be away from the back bars. We could do a 10" on either side.
