  • Tivo alternative

So now that I'm working on my HTPC I'm hoping I can integrate hardware/software to work in the place of my tivos.

right now I can watch and record in 3 rooms on 3 TVs. I'd like to be able to do something similar. I have looked at internal pci express cards and also the silicone dust 3 tuner box.

I have 3 tvs all have hdmi inputs and have coax as well as cat5 ran next to them. I thought about doing a silicone dust in my media room and do all my recording there however not sure how to stream it to the other two tvs. I'd like it to be one unit so I don't have to switch inputs on the tv to watch live vs. recorded tv. Anything like this exist?

I didn't know if any of the little android set top boxes would let me watch live tv through my htpc and the silicone dust if that makes sense? Any advice or help appreciated.

If you hurry...woot had the HDHR prime for $80 today

Also... to stream, check out Raspberri Pi with XBMC or XBOX or Ceton Echo (though this is probably the last option). I have a brand new Tivo Roamio and planning on doing Tivo stream just because I dont want downtime, or issues. Ceton Infinitv was an option but apparently there is lag when changing the channel. The biggest worry is that Microsoft is dropping WMC support which is the heart for most of these units.

yes I saw that today and thats what got me thinking. If only the hd homerun had HDMI outputs so I could stream to my other rooms.

you use the HDHR at all? I've never tried one

never tried one. I honestly would rather just suck it up and pay for Tivo and their lifetime service. Its not cheap but will be cheaper than the cable company in the long run. Sometimes money < time.
