  • HDMI question

I am probably going to need to run a 20 foot HDMI cable in my living room. I am new to this, so can I get some advice? What all do I need?

I know I need the 20 foot cable to run up a wall, through the attic and down to the receiver on another wall. Am I better off getting 2 wall plates?

I see there are different gauges as well. What are your recommendations and experience.

Obviously I am looking at monoprice for the equipment.

For longer runs up to 20-25ft the heavier gauge monoprice cables work well up to 1080p 3d.

I just bought a 50' redmere to try from mono price when my projector gets in. I'm not going to use plug in wall plates. More room for error.

You might be able to get away using the HDMI wall plates for so short of run.

I have yet to hear a bad review on Blue Jean Cables

Haven't looked, but I wonder if would be cheaper to use CAT 5/6 for long runs for HDMI???

        for 20/25' HDMI is cheaper.

Some will argue on the 35-40'+ runs.

For just a 20' run you won't need to get crazy with the gauge or anything. Just grab a "premium" 20' cable from monoprice and you'll be good to 1080p 3D. I would not go the wall plate route. More connections in the mix is bad. Just cut in a couple of drywall mud-rings and drop the wire down both stub walls from the attic and you're done.

I ran this a few days ago. Ended up with a 20' 22 gauge high speed cable from monoprice. The cable wasn't very flexible but I am happy with it so far.

Now I just have to patch my ceiling.

looked my order up from monoprice. i used a 30ft 24 awg hdmi cable that was cl2 rated for in-wall installs. it says 720p/1080i in the description but i had no issue sending 1080p.
