  • Opinions on this Onkyo receiver..

I have an Onkyo right now that I've been using for like 10 years with no issue. Problem now is that, it's outdated...lol. Mine only has 2 optical inputs for audio and I need more. I need one that has HDMI inputs instead. I came across this one, which isn't too bad on price($379). I do plan on upgrading my speakers at a later date.

I will never buy another Onkyo receiver as long as I live. If you have a PS3 that you plan to run through the receiver, keep on looking for another brand. I have the SR606, and I have the all too common HDCP handshake issue. I don't know of a single person with a relatively new Onkyo receiver that DOESN'T have this issue.

Yep...Was reading up and a lot of people are having issues with it. Few have some for this model while others say it works. I'll probably look into a Denon which was my other choice.

I'm running a Harman Kardon AVR-2600 and it sounds beautiful, and I'm passing 4 HDMI inputs (xbox, bluray, dvr, and camera) through 2 outputs (TV and projector) without any handshake issues at all.

x2 for Harmon Kardon. I had a high end Onkyo that gave me nothing but problems and even UNDER warranty Onkyo made it so difficult to get repairs done that it forever ruined my opinion of them. FUCK Onkyo.

I have an Integra Processor, which is basically an Onkyo. Never had any problems with it at all. Run the PS3 through it, have ran Xbox through it also. Never had any issues at all. I've had it for about 3 years now, and **knock on wood**, no problems yet!

If I'm not mistaken, jluv has three Onkyo receivers. Two of which I think are HTIB setups, and I don't know the model numbers, but every one of his receivers has the HDCP handshake issue.

Mine worked fine at first. Then as time went on, it took longer, and longer, and longer for the receiver to receive the PS3 signal. Mine is almost to the point of not recognizing it at all. I sometimes wait 30+ minutes just to be able to watch a blu ray or play a game. I actually pulled it last night, and ran it directly to the TV. Which sucks, when you've become used to the surround sound while gaming.

This also makes the DTS-HD totally fucking useless. The whole reason I bought the fucking thing, and it's a fucking piece of fucking shit. Onkyo refuses to recognize the problem, so good luck getting it fixed if you end up with an Onkyo.

Pardon my language. I'm more than just a little pissed that I spent what I spent on this pile of shit, and it doesn't fucking work. Silly me, expecting shit to work as advertised.

Onkyo definitely gets my thumbs up. That's a good AVR. Spec's look good. Go for it. I've had several different brands AVRs in the past and under the 1K range, I feel Onkyo is the best. I know it's debatable and I also know there are a lot of other good AVRs, like Marantz, Harmon, etc..Just my opinion. Hell, even my first HDMI switching Onkyo had clean dialogue reproduction, good imaging, great surround detail, and solid power. And the 1080p upconversion worked great with no HDCP issues with any of my other AV gear.

Never have been a fan of Onkyo. We had alot of em in Magnolia burn up on us. Yamaha and Pioneer have excellent receivers in that price range.

I can't remember all off the top of my head, but the last time I was there, the grapevine store (148) had a 50" if I remember correctly.

My Dad is wanting to pick up a new TV, and I figured since they stopped making them (or are in the process of), he may be able to find a decent deal on one that someone still had laying around. I'll check that store out. TY.

                              I found another receiver...Denon 1911

Been reading AVS forums lately...lot of info. Found a good price on slickdeals with a coupon code(AFLDEN408). Place is 6ave.com, which is a authorized denon seller. Comes out to be $408. Haven't bit the bullet yet. Still reading and thinking about it.
