I think most of the boxes out there are either slapped together or they don't match the specs of the subs. You also have boxes that are tuned too high or too low and then people aren't setting their crossover frequencies correctly. If you send 30 hz cranked to a sub that's in a box tuned to 37 hz, it's going to sound like a fart and potentially die.

That's one advantage to sealed, that you can get more consistent low end and avoid having an overly boomy peak frequency that is common with ported boxes. A good EQ can overcome that, though.

Awesome subs and plenty of power. I bet they do sound great.

My best friend gave me his old kove 504 when he mived last week and I have had the bug. I managed to squeeze a jl 10w6v2 in a seales box behind the seat of my old regular cab s-10. I have wanted to put together a new set up for a while. Something leaning more towards SQL but still have some decent low end when I want to jam. I have leaned toward a pair of JL 8". I need to upgrade the front components first though...

The alpine shallow mount subs are ridiculously priced, I've heard the Rockford shallow mounts and they sound good but I would look into Sundown or possibly DC

Sundown and DC do not belong in a shallow mount conversation.

I never checked to see if they had shallow mount subs I just assumed they did.

I had the sundown shallow 10" in the coupe I had and it sounded lot better than other people's regular size subs. But the box I had made had lot to do with it also. But 23mm or 24mm of excursion forward and down is out there and for a shallow to do it and not bottom out was really out there.

I can't play in the deep end of the sandbox, that's where the leprechaun is and he tells me to burn things!

I installed a JL Stealthbox in my 98 GMC Sierra extended cab (single 10...I believe a 10w1)....originally hooked up to a Linear 2202iq bridged, and recently I swapped in a Linear 952iq to lessen the chance of destroying the speaker...and at low to mid volume levels it sounds just ok. At higher volumes forget it...it sounds pretty crappy. In contrast...in my old 83 Supra I built a sealed rear firing single 10" enclosure mounted behind the rear seat...and installed one 10W6 back when they first hit the market. Running a Linear 3002 bridged mono...my supra sounded like it had 2 12's back there...it was insane how strong it was. To this day that has been the hardest hitting subwoofer system I've had in a car (although I learned quickly that the 10W6 didn't get along well with the Audiocontrol Epicenter).
