  • Anyone have experiancve with the slim mount subwoofers?

Do not like the "stealth box" available for the new jeep wranglers and going to build a custom enclosure which basically raises the "trunk" area up 4-5". Going to go with slim mount downward facing subs and an amp vented underneath new false floor. That way with top of you will not be able to tell there is a sound system installed.

My question is what if any experience do you guys have on these subs. Plan on going with 3 10's or 3 12's.

Not many reviews out on these subs yet. Curious to hear first hand knowledge. Obviously these will not hit as hard as full magnet speakers, but that is why i am going with three of whichever i decide. I think that with a 3.25-3.75 mounting depth that i can keep the total enclosure below 5.5 inches.

    Kicker 40CWRT121 12" -Top-mount depth: 3-3/4

    SOUNDSTREAM PXW-12T 12" - Mounting Depth: 3" (76mm)

    CADENCE CVL10-SW 4-OHM - Mounting Depth: 3.5"

    ROCKFORD FOSGATE R2SD4-12 12 - Mounting Depth: 3.602 Inches (91.5 mm)

Crutchfield has a good selection with a good number of reviews. Even if you don't buy from crutchfield, the reviews are helpful to narrow down your choices.

      What about JL?

      JL 10TW3's - 3.25
      JL 12TW3's- 3.50

I have two 10TW3's in a custom box by EW behind the back seat of an F250. Damn good subs..
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

JL is my sub of choice. I set up quite a few systems when I was younger. The ones using JL woofers always sounded the best. Don't waste your money on prefab boxes. Find someone to build a box for the sub!

No experience with low profile subs, but every JL product ive owned has lasted for years and sounded like there was 2x the speaker qty.

I like JL as well, but he said no stealthbox in his first post. Stealthbox is JL, but maybe he was referring to something else?

I had a Stealthbox in my F250 with a single 13w5 on 600 watts. It sounded good, but not near enough output for my taste. I've never heard a shallow sub setup that could satisfy my needs, but I like it LOUD.

I agree on the prefab box comment. Whatever sub you get, make sure you match it with a box that is built to the recommended specs. Ported beats sealed if you can make it fit. And of course, clean power is your friend. It's way better to have too much than not enough.

I had a sundown SD-10 and couldn't recommend them enough. I've talk to couple people that had different brands of shollows like kicker and Rockford fosgate and both of them said they're switching to these. Here's clip of sundowns owner talking adout it and them demos it

I Have a jeep as well. I built my own and used a kicker 8" L7 woofer. It flat out gets it for an 8". I just had it running with the stock HU for a while and I recent switched to an aftermarket and it sounds 10x better now.

JK Electrical, Lighting & Sound Systems - Subwoofer install, pic heavy... - So I got a wild hair up my ass after re-subscribing to sirius that I needed a bit more bass than the factory stereo was providing. I did not want to give up much room in the cargo area as I have a 2dr. Since I did not want to blow my ears off...

That's baddass. My kicker died last week in my truck, so im thinking about a couple of options. I really like the linex.

Based on your comments I get that you like it loud and for that ported is better for sure. It makes more noise. But to say that it beats a sealed enclosure for SQ is crazy talk. I know you didn't say that verbatim but you said "ported beats sealed."

Thanks, it's not going to knock your head off if you are a bass junkie. It's more like really strong mid bass. It suits my needs fine and provides way more that the weak ass stock sub did. I went with the line-x because this jeep has leaked since it was brand new. Every time it rains I have a passenger floorboard that is wet and right over the sub box there is a slow drip. If I would have put carpet on it would have eventually failed.

Ive had a kicker 8" hidden in my lower center seat storage area for the last couple years. I've got a couple twelves that could go under the back seat, but I would rather not have them there and that obvious. When theves broke into my truck, they didnt find the sub.

I may actually remake the lower seat bottom to gain a bit of space. I dont know how much i have now, but more cant hurt. I doubt I can sqeeze a ten or twelve in there and keep the center seat still a seat.

I didn't say anything about SQ. The OP didn't either. He does talk about the difference in subs and "hitting hard", which leads me to believe output is a big factor.

That said, it is not difficult to achieve excellent SQ with a ported enclosure. That's just an age old car audio myth perpetuated by an abundance of poorly designed/built ported boxes.

I used to feel the same way you do, but I've come to know better over the years.

Again, if set up correctly, ported does NOT have a significant disadvantage in SQ, but it will have a significant advantage in output. I ran sealed for years, but I'd only do it again if there was no way I could fit a ported enclosure into my application.

Yes, I like it very loud, but I also like it to sound excellent. Anyone can build a booming system OR a small SQ system. I take pride in having both - a system that sounds amazingly clean and also has a ton of impact.

Buddy of mine has the RF slim mount in a sealed box mounted in the side panel of his GTO. I was surprised by it's output but if you like heavy hitting systems it may leave you wanting more.

On the subject of small enclosures sounding big, my "quick, temporary" box got put into daily service because it sounds amazing. 1.25 cube ported tuned to 36Hz with Image Dynamics ID8's on about 450w/ea.

I hate typical "boxes" so I'll be fabbing up a 'glass enclosure soon to clean up my storage space again.

Well cool. Ported enclosures have always just not had the clarity that I like. I guess I have not heard a good one.
