I have the 8350 as well and love it... I'm in process of upgrading my media room for a new house and think I may look to upg the projector along with everything else, but not sure I need the expense. It's a great projector, I'll just have to see how large I can go and keep quality.

Currently it's on a 110" screen and looks great to me.

My pops has one and loves it. His bulb lasted nearly 7k before it went out. He replaced it last month for only $125.

That is incredible life if that's the case. I have owned 2 Optoma DLP projectors and I can no longer recommend them. The bulbs are expensive (nearly twice the cost of current generation bulbs) they have half the life of current gen, and these projectors use a DLP color wheel, which has a tendency to clog with dust and fail. Both of my Optoma's had the same fate - color wheel failure. Although I fixed both of them, I no longer buy DLP projectors and have since switched to the more reliable LCD.

I hear ya on expensive bulb replacement. I had to pay over $250 for a bulb on my last Infocus. I have a dead bulb in the sony projector (LCD btw) I have now but can't justify the cost of replacing the bulb since it's an older 720p model.

So, the 8350 still the best bang for the buck? I am now seriously looking to buy one and an ready to purchase. The 8350 is well in my price range and seems to be well loved with you guys. One thing I am still on the fence about is the Hz of the unit. I love my sports and the 120hz stuff just looks flat out better to me. Also this will be the main set in the house so will it be fine to run it all day for weeks/ months/ years? Last question... What about gaming on it? I do occasionally play a few console games. I want to run it in the 100-120" range if that matters.

I do not want to spend any more than 2k on the projector so with that in mind is there a better option? Although If there is something way better for a few more bucks I would swing for it.

I have spent a few hrs just reading reviews on the epson and the panny PTAE8000U that CJ recommended. I think I am going to go with the Panasonic. Both units have stellar reviews but there was an overall consensus that the Panasonic was a bit superior and had better performance during the daytime. My living room is not a dungeon so I will need the extra help there. It is a tad bit over my budget that I wanted to spend but I can swing it. Recommendations on screens?

I was also concerned about the frame rate, because all of my TV's are 120hz or better. I ended up with the 8350 because of the price point. The Panasonic is a good projector, and it is 120hz, however I would recommend you see one first, it has been a few years since I saw one, but I do recall the frame smoothing was a little unnatural at times. 90% of the quality of the increase refresh rate is how the unit processes the frames.

Nice I was looking at the other jvc projectors as well. They seem to get good reviews.

One other thing I was wondering about was I read somewhere in a review that an individual had trouble with a longer run on an hdmi cable. They said they called the Mfg. and they said to limit the cable length to 10' is this sound legit to anyone else? I am going to have between a 35-50' run of hdmi between my projector and receiver if I go the projector route. I do not want to get in a situation where I have to consider the placement of the projector because there is only one option in the room where it is going.

Ive heard both ways, apparently there is a drop after about 10' or so, but that drop is going to be hard to miss, as far as human perception goes.

LOL, a projector with a 10' max hdmi cable? With most ceilings being 9' at minimum and a drop for the mount...that's absurd. Even if it was on a bookcase it would have to be against the receiver, that's completely ridiculous. I've never run anything less than a 30' HDMI cable to any projector, and currently I'm running 50'.

I agree totally, the person said that at certain points during a movie the picture would "stutter" or something like that. I would assume with today's 1.4 hdmi cars this would be a non issue.

Monoprice carries a new line of cables that have built in amplifiers/PCB's in the connectors. They will market them on their main page.

                                edit: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

They basically boost the signal like a repeater so you can do really long runs, like 100'. What he told you sounded like some BS. Now the Panasonic 8000 will stutter with it's frame smoothing, that's normal.
