  • ? about high pass inputs

Do you lose quality using the high pass input on a amp, for the amp? Friend is adding a sub to his 2013 Civic EX. It has a weak sub in it, so I figured you could just remove the OE sub, and use the powered leads as the input for the new sub? Being able to control the sub thru the factory radio is a plus, but losing quality is not an option (its my sub, lol). Thanks in advance

Factory junk can't drive aftermarket sub.
Good luck finding an infinite baffle woofer.
Disconnect the factory sub and run the signal wires into an amp's speaker level input or use an electronic LOC and then go into the amp.
Install a 15" woofer in an enclosure.
    ??????
    Profit.

Let me clarify, I dont want a factory amp to drive a sub. I am worried about the signal to the aftermarket amp. I want to remove the signal wires from the factory stereo amp, and send it to the aftermarket amp. I don't know if it is that simple. lol

          Yep.
The electronic LOCs (like Audio Control, Cache, JL Audio Cleansweep, etc) will handle lots of input power (400W which is way more than any factory system puts out) from the factory amp and not compress, distort, or phase shift the signals like some passive LOCs. If you can get the signal before a factory amp fine. If not, after the amp is ok. Some volume controls are actually a data signal from the deck to the factory amp and controlled in the factory amp which means you will have to get the signal after the amp for the factory volume control to work.

A cache cloc+d or PAC PDLC21 are around $70 and look to be the same item. JL XD amps can handle 4VAC of input signal directly on the rca input. JL HD amps can handle 8VAC input signal.

Also, I found out ARC audio offers some free air woofers. ARC8, ARC10, ARC12, ARC15.
