I see there are a few apps out there and did not know which ones are the best. I travel a lot and it would be nice to have a second screen when I am on the road.

Anyone use their IPad as monitor for your laptop?

I used to run an app called Air Display, but it was a bit buggy. It connects through the wifi router, which can be an issue to setup when you're on hotel wifi, as you don't have access to the router or settings.
I ended up picking up a 17" HP USB powered monitor, which works great. No issue with connecting, and the screen is much larger than the iPad, which suits my needs for work much better. It's only slightly thicker than a laptop screen, and slides into my laptop bag, right behind the laptop.
