Budget speakers for home theater

I just upgraded my receiver and tv so now I'm looking piece together speakers. I know Polk makes a good product but are there any others you guys would suggest/stay away from?

So far I'm torn between Polk and cerwin vega

Roughly 500. Ill piece it together fronts, center, rears, then sub. I can go a little more than that but I don't want a ton of money into it.

I have Martin Logan Motion 10's for my front left and front right speakers.

You can get the pair for under your $500 budget and I think you will be quite happy with them. I know with just those two speakers I could feel it in my couch with no sub at all.

My current setup is:

- Samsung 55" UN55D7000 TV
- Pioneer VSX-920 Receiver
- Martin Logan Motion 10 Front Left and Right Speakers
- Klipsch SW350 8" Subwoofer

That right there will blow you straight out of the room with no center channel or rears. I've had my upstairs neighbors get pretty pissed when I added that sub because it hits HARD when it's turned up.

You're not going to get a good sounding 5.1 system for $500 out the door.

I have that much invested in just my fronts and sub and that's with me getting the ML's for $200 for the pair instead of $400.

Agreed. OP, in order to get something you'll be happy with you'll have to bump up your budget a little unless you buy used or find some killer deals. I'd say somewhere in the $700+ area should get something pretty nice. For 5.1 anyway.

Honestly, I don't even think $700 would get him what he really wants unless he gets hooked up like I have.

$1k is probably the minimum, IMHO.

I'm still without a center-channel speaker ($200) and rears ($400/pair). That will put me around $1,100 invested, but it will sound bad-ass and last for at least the next 5-10 years.

best bet is to buy used. hit up craigslist for lower budget speaker purchases. you can typically save about 50-70% buying used speakers.

this is the new line from them. I have the older Monitor line (40, 50, 60, etc.) and I'd bet you can find those on Ebay through the Polk store for less. Also free shipping and no tax


buying used middle/higher end audio gear is a pretty good idea, most guys that buy that type of stuff take care of it for the most part.

that is assuming of course we are still talking about 5.1 and using towers in front and bookshelves in back. My room is using bookshelves up front because I had cabinet limits and in-ceilings in the rear so it all just depends on room size and layout along with budget.
