  • Mitsubishi WD-82737 82" DLP

anyone familiar with this TV or familiar with the more recent Mitsu DLP's?

I know some of the older ones had issues. I had a 65" for a couple days about 4yrs ago that had problems with powering up.

But the newer ones have good reviews from what I've seen... I got started sniffing around looking at TV's earlier, and found a good deal on one of these.

I really wanted another LCD, but god damn, an 82" is a LOT bigger than a 60" LOL

mitsu is about the only manufacturer still making DLPs. I've seen some excellent quality from their 60" or greater 1080p TVs. I personally just got tired having to replace bulbs every year and switched to Plasma. Mitsu does make a good quality DLP. At least most people have good luck with them. They just have a large footprint.

yeah, I'd obviously prefer a flat panel style, but the sheer size of it is tempting... it's only like 22" thick... hell, my current TV stand is deeper than that!

been eying a couple good deals on plasmas too, but I think at that point, I would probably just spend a little more and get another LCD...

If you get a good deal, just buy an extended warranty with it... Many of the warranties sold online include bulb replacement.

I bought a 65" Mitsubishi 1080p DLP in 2007 and it still has a fantastic picture and has never given me any problems.

Read carefully about the bulb replacement - most extended warranty companies only let you have one bulb, if any. The warranty companies learned quickly that they were going to lose money on replacing bulbs and adjusted their terms to save coin. Also, we have received generic bulbs from extended warranty companies that don't last 30 days - we force the issue for a factory original and get the normal year+ out of it.

Some of the older Mits DLPs had a thermal sensor issue, but it is few and far between that we get a call for that anymore. They are fairly trouble free, other than replacing the lamp.

Buy a DLP that uses LEDs instead of lamps.

I've had the 73" version for about 3 1/2 years now, and it's been great. Lately, I've noticed that the picture isn't nearly as bright and vivid as my plasmas and LCDs (btw, the plasmas in my house have MUCH better picture than the LCDs). So, I know I am due for a bulb replacement. I know you can get them fairly cheap online, and it can't be that hard to change out. When new, it had as good of a picture of anything else I own. Ifyou have the room, and you don't have to hang it, DLP is the way to go! Get that big bastard and you will never regret it.

We have a 57" and a 65" Mitsubishi DLP TV in a couple of our rooms.
The picture is fantastic and I loved them whenever I watched them.
I am selling the 57" now, but it seems like no one is interested in them anymore.

I am selling it fairly cheap as well($350).

The weight surprises me. I think my 65" Diamond series is around 30 lbs. It's light as fuck.

Happy Mitsu owner here. I love mine, never had a single problem with it. I think I've had it for 2ish years now, maybe 3. My only complaint is that I want the 82". Just waiting on the prices to drop a little. I paid $1700 for this top of the line 65", for reference.

Everything I read online said if you have the room for a DLP it's the way to go as far as size to cost (bigger for less money). My roommate has had good luck with his Samsung DLP, but like you said it appears Mitsubishi if the only one still making them.

I did a lot of reading at avsforum.com, here's a few threads on Mitsubishi:

                              Roommate's Samsung 63?" (high 50/low 60") was 70-80 lbs.
