What systems and brands are you guys liking? Anything Sony is out. I'm never giving that corporation another penny. Is there anything wireless that is worth a damn? Haven't bought one in about 13 years, so I'm a bit outdated on what I used to look at.

Eric, I've got an Onlyo 7.1 system I'll sell you for less than half what I bought it for. It has HDMI handshake issues like any Onlyo, but you can bypass that by running HDMI straight to your TV for video and using an optical cable for audio. You'll give up true 7.1, TrueHD, and DTS-HD, but 5.1 will be fine, as 90% of the stuff you watch will only be in 5.1 anyway (all DVDs, all TV, lots of Blurays). Anything you get cheaper won't have those audio formats anyway, and won't be nearly as powerful. I'll get the model number and specs for you later. The setup is all boxed up and in storage.
To get better than that, you're gonna have to start piecing stuff together separately, which will get expensive in a hurry.

Is Onlyo the generic version of Onkyo? Kinda like Nikkies instead of Nikes?

Sorry, forgot I started this thread way down here. Not wanting to drop a ridiculous amount of coin. Probably in the $500 range at tops. I mostly watch blurays. Also not looking to piece anything together. The area it will be in is probably about 15x15. Not moved in yet. Let me know the model number and year of manufacture if you can, Jared.

Onkyo HT-S5100
7.1
1200 watts
Ipod doc included
Features: http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=...ss=Systems&p=f
I think I paid around $600 brand new, and it was probably on sale. I think it's maybe 5 or 6 years old.
I saw it a few months ago used on Amazon for $353, but now it's not even available.
It's all boxed up with the receiver, sub, 7 speakers, Ipod dock, remote, and manual. It's in great shape, always well taken care of.
Yours for $250. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all, especially compared to anything else you can buy for that price. Heck, even compared to anything you can buy for $500, this would be a better option, imo.Last edited by jluv; 10-22-2012, 08:17 AM.

I started with a HITB, they've gotten better than when I got mine, but was not very impressed with it. I think mine was a panasonic or something...
Then had a Sony receiver, had it pushing my Cerwin Vega 12" towers with cheap (don't remember brand) surrounds in the rear and a cheap 8" sub.
Bought a Denon 5.1ch receiver about 2.5 years ago, with Boston Acoustic surround speakers. New Receiver was too strong for Sub, no gain adjustments.
Bought a Klipsch Sub
Everything was good, then one day, about a month ago, realized that I wasn't happy with how everything sounded.
Bought a Yamaha 7.2ch receiver and 2 Klipsch ICON towers. Hooked it all up and was amazed at the difference the ICON's made and the improvement out of the old Boston Acoustic surrouds using the Yamaha.
I've got quite a bit of money tied up in the home audio now, but it is worth it, especially if you watch a bunch of movies at home! Future plans are to upgrade surround speakers with Klipsch or maybe Definitive"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776
